Pruning

It won't hurt to take off the ends of branches but be careful, we pollarded our tree last autumn and it started sending shoots up from the roots under the lawn.

You can prune those branches off if you want to .
But -
I wouldn't prune it until late July /August.
I didn't write it in my lost text , but the weight of the fruit and the rain might be making them overhang .
I usually support branches with old tights .

After fruition , the flowers /fruit are set for the next year in most plants .

If odd suckers are produced it is because the energy has been redirected .

Cherries and other stone fruit are best pruned June/July rather than when dormant as with other fruit trees. This is because they can suffer blight and disease if pruned any other time.

Now that is really confusing !!!

Our old horticulture teacher used to say 'Always prune a prune in June' for the reasons Avalon25 said. Prune being short for prunus i.e. cherry, almond, plum, peach, and apricot.

Hessayon says June to late July in “The Fruit Expert”. RHS says late July or August! I guess now is the safest time Esmay. Happy gardening to you too !
