He’s called Ned. Isn’t he gorgeous?

Sorry, me again, but there's a Gardeners' World winter special tonight at 9pm.
Just look how Ned is being squished in between the other two and being held onto very tightly!

He’s adorable. He’s going to be a tall dog, I think. He has a very mischievous streak - I watched him pinching beans out of monty’s trug on one programme, and digging up plants that had been put in the ground, so pinching the apple cake doesn’t surprise me 😂.

Sorry to keep resurrecting this thread, but today's comment from Monty Don made me laugh!

He’s at that stage where he’s all legs!

Sarah74 Thu 17-Nov-22 16:49:51

Bless him!! He’s getting quite big now.

A full month on and Mr. Cheeky has his paws on the table. He is growing fast!

I don’t suppose there are many healthy retriever puppies available through rescue centres, there would be a queue as long as your arm if there were.
Pretty much zilch where rescue retrievers are concerned, but occasionally they can be rescued from abroad.

We have always had rescue dogs (and children) I don't think it is that difficult to adopt a dog. I think it is the bigger rescues that tend to be stricter.

Casdon Sun 09-Oct-22 14:53:39

I don’t think it’s right to imply that Monty should have had a rescue dog, he’s had golden retrievers for years, they are clearly his favourite breed - and it’s a good idea to get a puppy if you have several existing dogs, there’s much less chance of them not getting on. Just to say I know several people-our daughter included -who have tried to rehome a rescue dog.Their criteria are so so strict now its virtually impossible
One lady was turned down because she has grandchildren. Another wasn't given a reason but is sure its because she is in her 70s despite being fit and having a big secure garden. We've had several rescues in the past but makes me wonder if we'd be turned down too.Ned is adorable!

I fell in love with Ned when I saw him on last night's programme (Monty is not bad either)!

Auntieflo Sat 08-Oct-22 09:39:48

Loved the picture of Monty with all three of his dogs at the end of the programme.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 08-Oct-22 07:02:58

Patty looked entirely fed up?.

merlotgran Fri 07-Oct-22 22:34:09

What a character he’s going to be.

Sarah74 Fri 07-Oct-22 21:29:53

smile

Joseanne Fri 07-Oct-22 20:15:45

That's it, he's stolen the show already!
Monty probably thought he'd plant a prickly bush as Ned wouldn't join in. Think again!

Joseanne Thu 22-Sept-22 12:14:23

I've just noticed the size of his ?.
He is going to be big!

merlotgran Wed 21-Sept-22 16:27:52

Looks like he’s settling in nicely. ?

I like the idea of a rescue dog.
But I like the puppy stage immensely, a bit like I love babies under 12 months. I am early 60s and our golden pup is testing my fitness and stamina, in a good way. Ned looks so like him.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 21-Sept-22 12:46:02

I thought that but didn’t dare say it! Thanks!

VB000 Wed 21-Sept-22 11:33:50

Why not get an older rescue? I’m 71 and have just adopted a wonderful 7 year old GSD. At my age I wouldn’t take on a puppy and risk it outliving me.

Totally agree - much as I love Monty/GW, and Ned looks really cute, it would set a good example to have a rescue dog, rather than a pedigree puppy (assuming of course that Ned wasn't a rescue puppy).

Kalu

I saw Nellie on GW last night but no sign of Patti! Hope nothing to worry about.
Ned is adorable and oh how I would love another yellow lab, we have had six but at 72, feel I am too old now to take on another dog for the next 12/13 years. ?

How lovely smile Ned looks such a cuddly little puppy.

J52 Wed 21-Sept-22 09:24:51

I’m going to get my DS’s puppy to watch Gardener’s World, so he can learn how to behave when gardening ?.
I love getting glimpses of Nellie and Patti.
