I sometimes have to cut mine down to ground level - but it does grow again, so the roots do survive.

Oh! I'll try that because both ours look dreadful.

Or, as they say in Australia, they've karked it.

The very cold frost killed mine off along with 12 other mature shrubs, I’ve cut it back but so far no signs of regrowth, it’s in a sheltered spot close to the house as well.

We lost bothours this winter they didn't like the snow and ice. We tried all the advice but but it was hopeless.
