OK, so fake grass is horrible. But, you try looking after a lawn when your health gives up on you.
Try finding someone to regularly come and care for it. Impossible.
We had ours laid 5/6 years ago and it still looks good. We have no pets or small grandchildren to run around on it. The great GC are too small at the moment, and we may not be here when they get older.
We have borders that are full of creepy crawlies and visiting birds, that still find food, although we don't feed them.
We have done what we could to make life easier for ourselves, both of us being over 80.
If you need specs, you wear them. If you need hearing aids, you use them.
Every so often this subject gets raised, and I am fed up with justifying our choice.

Agreed.

My husband has artificial grass around sidewalks at entrance parts to his buildings. Tidy, helps keep his building floors clean.

No re-planting, watering, gardener chores. Always looks pleasant.

We live opposite a home with artificial grass; IMO it looks awful and is environmentally disastrous. Other "easy care" solutions can be: laying gravel, slate, or paving, or planting "low maintenance" shrubbery; surely any of these has to be a better option?

Fake grass has its place.
Large trees around your house , owned by local council who don't bother with them.
Spend lots of money trying to give your grass the kiss of life as the trees canopy covers most of it, with massive leaf drop. Which kills most of it year in and out, the need of a Gardener to keep the soggy leaves off it.. As you can't keep up with it
Re lawn /seed on a regular basis over the years, make flower boarders bigger. Try everything..

Give up and get Artificial Lawn.. Result.
