I decided on it as famous and I wanted a deep red climber. However it seems to be generally unavailable
unless you buy it in a pot for £200+. Beales roses state they look longer stock it. Does anyone know any background to this?

Or it might have been David Austin Roses.

It is Peter Beale, I just checked. Pot grown is out of stock for this season, but they have a bare rooted one that you can pre order for delivery in November.

Peter Beales website allows you to pre order a bare root one.

I’ve got Etoile de Hollande which is a deep red climber, huge scented blooms that flower all season long.
Might be an alternative.

Wow !
200 quid for an Ena Harkness -I had better get cracking !

A bare root is fine .
I soak mine overnight and plant out the next day .
If I don't have the right place prepared - I put them in a temporary spot .

New introductions come and go but it's a wonderful prolific rose .
We had one which had a minimum of forty blooms on it during the summer .
Described as red - I'd call it a very dark pink .
The flower heads can be heavy and droop slightly .
The leaves are dark green and glossy .
I don't recall any black spot .

Raised by an amateur and introduced in 1946 it made the Harkness family rich ..
My favourite Harkness rose is Elizabeth Harkness .
The creamy pink colour is so subtle and the shape so
beautiful .

They are both on my list .

I'll be getting the secateurs out and looking for cuttings !

I googled. Its on eBay and only a two litre pot! Allegedly several sold. Why don’t I believe that?

Thanks, folks. I will order from P Beale. Was floundering about and had given up. Makes up for the fact that today the fox flattened my fave phlox just as it was coming into bloom.

Or the other nursery mentioned. Had not heard of that one.

I see Gardening Express have it in stock now. I would pre order from Beales however. If anything goes wrong they have a very good customer service and put it right - worth the wait. I’ve had bad failures with Gardening Express and will no longer use them. Just wanted to post this warning.

I also wouldn't order from Gardening Express .
The reviews are poor .
I get really upset and disappointed if my plants fail .
I've had good and bad from ebay .

Peter Beales and David Austin are excellent companies .

I us3d Gardening Express once. Never again.

Harkness themselves are also good but they don’t stock Ena Harkness rose!!
