Runner beans

Hetty - I haven't found runner bean skins tough like broad beans so no need to remove.

We've also a lot of purple French beans that have got too big and tough and collecting beans from them. A bit fiddly to shell them but don't want to waste.

We've also lots of tomatoes and I bottle them - sometimes I add beans - runner or French - to the jars.

Some good ideas here .Thanks. I shall remember to rehydrate first.

Yes you can but if you dry them out for storing in a jar you need to rehydrate them by soaking them for at least two hours before cooking.

I'd be inclined to pop the beans out of their skins after cooking.

You can use the beans inside -cook for 10 min or so till soft, then use or freeze till needed. Fine in any dish needing beans. Green pods do well on compost heap!

Leave them on the plant to dry out and sow next year.
I know of someone who stewed the tough beans with tomatoes, they stayed tough!
