Weeding!

I’m afraid this granny gave in and got the gardener to weed her flower beds a few weeks ago. It was dreadful mess after the winter. Now I can keep on top of it and replant any gaps - when it gets warmer and the b****y wind stops blowing! My kneeling stool is my best friend these days.

A hoe is the best tool. No bending - no killing the wildlife - a quick weed once a week keeps them away.

V3ra - I will certainly try that - easy, straight from the kettle ..

Charleygirl5 last year I tried the salt/white vinegar combination to kill weeds in my patio.
This year I'm having better and quicker results using just boiling water, so I'd suggest you try that first.

If you do use salt be careful when it rains the runoff does not go near your borders, you do not want dead perennials

I have a lot of weeds appearing on my patio. I have read that if I sprinkle salt and then apply boiling water the weeds will die. I will try a small area before I invest in a shedload of salt.

The cheapest salt will do, I think. Tesco table salt is 27p for 750g.
Larger packs of cooking salt seem more expensive per 500g.

This Granny's been bone idle in the garden lately.
Must buck up.

Lounging in her chair

This Granny doesn’t do any weeding, because she’s lazy..

Bump because of spam threads - again!!

confusedconfused ???

There were several spam threads appearing, RosiesMaw, and the last time that happened some of us were bumping normal threads so as to chase the spam ones down the Active list. However, it seems that GNHQ managed to get rid of them fairly quickly this time, so well done them!

Sorry your shoulder isn't repaired yet Iam64 I've been able to get out in the garden, try to do at least 30 minutes each day and we are beginning to look tidy. I have an old pilates mat that I roll up to kneel on, it's waterproof and very comfy. Much to my surprise I've had the appointment for my pacemaker come through with booklet about initial aftercare so that's a further incentive to get on top of the weeds! We do have lots of colour though and some really lovely clematis.

It’s so cold here in the wet grey north west
That plus my fractured shoulder mean my garden looks neglected

Yes, got some planting done and hopefully more tomorrow. The weeds must wait. At least the forecast for this week is for dry weather …

BlueBelle Mon 29-Apr-24 18:46:16

Wheniwasyourage Mon 29-Apr-24 18:42:15

Love it RosiesMaw! I’ve got some done between showers and the cold, but one sunny day and they’ll all explode!

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 29-Apr-24 17:52:11

Bloody cold wind though! I hope we’ve turned a corner …

Primrose53 Mon 29-Apr-24 17:47:54

Oh GSM it's much better here today! About time too.

As soon as the weather stabilises I will be out there with my trowel and trug. 🌸🌹🪻

I know the feeling! The constant rain means I am behind with the bloody weeds, which have thrived on it. I can’t kneel down now though so this Granny relies on her trusty little seat. Brilliant!

Granny’s in the garden
Down upon her knee
Head down, bum up
Elegant, she
Granny's in the garden
Laying waste to weeds
Hacking back, digging out
Dead things, roots and reeds
Granny's in the garden
Were those weeds or flowers?
Heck this is getting boring
And it's taking hours
Granny's in the bathroom
Drinking something white
Soaking all the aches away
That's it for tonight.grin
