Help please I need some good advise

I would try to strike some cuttings, in case the worst happens. Do you feed it? After 40 years, the soil must be short of nutrients. Liquid seaweed and top dress with compost?

Has it got a fungal infection? Would it benefit from a severe pruning?

A good idea to take cuttings, just in case you lose it. I would give it a good feed of liquid seaweed and a mulch, as advised above. Also, you might phone the BBC Rafio Kent Sunday Gardening programme this morning and speak to their expert, Jean Griffin, who is very knowledgeable. Alternatively, if you have a good nursery/garden centre nearby, they might be able to advise you. 🤞

I find it sad when a loved old plant looks as if it’s dying.
I listen to Gardners question time. This subject has cropped up several times. The general consensus seems to be that plants do get old and die 😥

Oh dear it is sad! Why not a accept it has give you 30 years of joy. Take it out nourish the soil and plant a new one in its memory!?

I had a real nuisance of an overgrown honeysuckle. I severely chopped it to the ground and it’s now springing up with new growth and flowers. Now I’m keeping it in check with pruning every year.

A honeysuckle that I planted only last year has made rampant growth, but a lot of the leaves are yellow, so presumably there’s some disease - and it’s making barely any flowers.

Our garden is very small so I don’t really want anything that’s not earning its keep. I’ve decided to dig it up and replace with a short-climbing rose - a potted Gertrude Jekyll is on its way from David Austin. I already have one in a large pot and it’s glorious.

Thanks I ve actually heard a few people saying their leaves are dropping mine are too I do know honeysuckle don’t like to be too wet so maybe it s that I think I ll cut it right back and see what happens next year if no better then it ll have to be dug out
