Not so sure about Christmas present

I am trying to set up a subscription to Gardeners World magazine as a gift but am getting very frustrated.
There are plenty of websites offering 6 and 12 months subs, but they are full of loopholes for a non-technical person like me.
To begin with, I almost set up a digital version instead of an actual paper magazine - the recipient doesn't have a laptop, anyway a proper magazine is nicer.
BUT the big pitfall for me is that all the sites require me to set up a self-repeating Direct Debit for 6 months (that I can cancel at any time).
The chances of my remembering to stop the payment after 6 months is doubtful to say the least.
Has anyone any information on a site that allows me to simply pay up front for 6 month's supply? It seems such a simple request.

A lot of things do this Write it in your diary to cancel it if you don’t have a diary write it somewhere you are sure to look a post it note on the bathroom mirror or your make up mirror or somewhere else you know you look Einstein every day

I bought one for my mother in law, I received an email a month before the subscription ended asking if I wanted to continue.

My daughter gave me subscription a couple of years ago for Good Housekeeping, and didn't have or didn't see the reminder so I had another six months! Just be careful and watch out as she thought she'd signed up for twelve months.

I've been caught out in the past, one was for a very expensive jar of face cream. As they say, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is ...... and I found myself with 2 pots of the useless stuff, I'd have done as well to smear margarine on my face!
Somehow I don't really feel these firms are trustworthy - they seem to think its OK to con people into buying more than they intend. So I don't feel I want to trade with them.
It would be more honest to give people the chance to continue paying if they wished, or to buy as a 'one off' if they prefer.
