It’s Been A Good Year For The Roses

That’s strange. The climbing rose on the pergola that leads for the fro t garden to the back is usually the subject of countless compliments but this year has made a rather pathetic showing. However, the sickly rose at the bottom of the back garden ( same variety) has this yer done brilliantly. (Both fed and treated the same).

Roses, clematis and peonies have been wonderful so have the penstemon and most of the hardy perennials but soft fruit have suffered in the dry weather and everywhere is looking parched ATM we really do need some rain.

We bought a new one this year called For Your Eyes only. I can see it from my kitchen window and although small now it is laden with buds some of which are just opening. It is very pretty. We have about 60 roses in our garden, many of which were dug up from our previous house and brought here. Apart from one or two they are doing better here than they did before. The funny part was we didn’t label them so had no idea which was which so we have a few climbers going great guns in the borders. At some point we might have to move them.

Yes mine were laden, now resting before the next flush. One of my jobs this week is to feed them.

We’ve had a really good first flourish of roses. Now, they are mostly all leaf. I’ve bought some manure and going to put that on with bonemeal and rose feed to try to get them back flowering. We’ve had aphids and greenfly too but I’m going for it with Rose Clear which helps.

Nope. Most of my roses have been devastated by greenfly, with just one exception. They started to recover but now the aphids are back, despite using natural deterrents.

My little mini roses are looking lovely- didn't think they would do anything but the are very sweet and healthy looking!
