My front garden marigolds - all self sown!

I find marigolds always get covered in blackfly. Californian poppies come up all over the place in my garden of their own accord and l love them. I thought they'd finished for this year but I'm now getting a second showing!

I know they can bloom every day of the year when the weather is mild, as often where I am in Ireland. Pelargoniums of all types bloom outdoors here too and survive the winter usually. A lovely lady from the Isle of Wight sent me a vinca many years ago which blooms right through the year all over the garden. In cold weather the flowers are white, but change to blue as it gets warmer. I think it is Vinca difformis, and can be seen all over my area of Wicklow, having come from gifts I gave to friends and acquaintances. Some people have begun to call it 'Star of Bethlehem'. It does climb but likes to grow in evergreen clumps also.

Lovely, we bought some marigold plants last year to put in pots and every single one died, I don’t know what went wrong.

I love Calendula or pot marigolds. They are cheerful and easy to grow, their petals are delicious in salads and are also good for dyeing.

Not sure what they are, but they are most welcome. Feel lucky to have a free gift from Mother Nature.

I love some of the plants which arrive in my garden naturally. However, if I don't like them or they are in the wrong place, I either move or remove them. My favourite plant which arrived in the garden is a wild orchid. It has now been with me several years. The most unexpected was a tomato plant which appeared when I had a yew tree cut back! I moved it into a pot and it produced fruit.

Oh I love French marigolds, in-particularly the pungent smell of them but of course their colour vibrancy too.
Previously they were considered to be a half-hardy annual but with the more clement winters we're having now they are spreading into nooks & crannies in my garden! They make me very happy. Small pleasures. 😊

last summer I noticed some canterbury bells growing , and I hadn't planted them, this year they are taking over, they're even growing up through the pebbles. it's either been strong wind or birds. they're lovely and I have uprooted some of them and given lots away.

I sowed seeds in pots, didn’t realise how very tall they would be.
Lovely tho and still blooming now. Seed packet only 99p and enough to fill several pots with flowers.

They took over our whole garden - and the neighbour's too. She was not well pleased! I still feel guilty.

You can use the petals in a salad as well. If you want to buy seeds Esmay they are Calendula Officinalis or Pot Marigold. I think you can sow them in Spring or Autumn.

I’ve always wanted Marigolds and last year stole some seeds from some in a NT garden (terrible I know but I’d been searching garden centres with no luck!) First flower this year and already I can see loads of babies.

I hope I don’t live to regret my theft if they take over the whole garden!

I have them in the gravel border round the house. They have come back self seeding every year for over 20 years. Mine are yellow and orange, so bright at this time of year. Yours look good Witzend.
