Moving lavender

I can’t give a definite answer as I’ve never moved Lavender, but now is a good time to take cuttings. I’d take half a dozen, hopefully they’ll strike and you’ll have some fresh plants. They grow and bloom quite quickly.

I successfully moved a small lavender plant earlier this year as its old position was becoming too shady. Your plants sound as if they are large and well established, so I'd be inclined to take cuttings. You could do both - moving the old plants and also taking cuttings - all bases covered!

Yes, I reckon mid-late spring - but google it - that will tell you

I don't think that moving anything in the middle of a drought/heatwave would be a particularly good idea.

Yes, take cuttings now, but I'd wait until autumn to move established plants when growth is slowing and the soil is, hopefully, less dry though still warm. Or leave it until spring.

I wasn’t thinking of moving it yet as I know it’s the wrong season…….just curious if anyone had any success that’s all. Planning on taking cuttings……when the bees let me get near enough 🐝

I’ve never had any success with lavender but mine are in pots so can’t help.
I would leave it and take cuttings.

We moved house last summer. Among the things that moved with us was a tall, heavy metal urn with a lavender growing in it.

Sometime last June I bought a large garden bucket from B&Q put some earth in it and endeavoured to pull the lavender out of the earn with its earth ball, not entirely successfully. I put it inthe bucket, topped up with new soil and for the next nine months it lived in the bucket variously at our DD's garden and ours, until our new patio was buikt and the urn came out of store and the lavender, once again back in its 'home' is doing fine.

I planted a new lavender bush in a lovely big container about a month ago. It said water in well, which I did but I think I should have stopped after a few days! The heads all went brown which is a sign of overwatering. I now have to stop watering it and keep my fingers crossed.

My Mum had wonderful lavender bushes all along her garden paths and they really looked after themselves.
