I think l most gardens will have rats!

I don’t think so! I have lived in multiple houses during my lifetime and I only saw a rat once, about 35 years ago when I lived in a flat that was part of a very old house near the town and a couple of fish and chip shops. It ran past me when I was going to my car in the car park.

Don’t go lifting any inspection covers then HobbyCat……..most drainage systems have rats.

We see one occasionally. He looks at us and tell him to go home 😂

Never mind the rats! We're being invaded with tiny, wingless beetles - half the size of an ant - 2 of us down our lane and a number of people in the village. We've had to sprinkle ant powder on the inside and outside of all our window and door sills. Someone says they're weevils, but a different sort to the ones one can find in flour. HELP!!

I haven’t got rats, but was very sad this afternoon to find a little long-eared bat dead in the middle of my back lawn. I can’t think how it could have got there, or what on earth could have killed it?

I have plenty of evidence of bats feeding on moths in my front porch, so I know they’re around, but I can’t imagine what could have caught and killed a bat. It has no visible injuries. It’s tiny and fragile & has enormously long ears.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

I saw a rat a few weeks ago. I had climbed up on to an old brick and flint wall to trim back the ivy. As I climbed back down again he suddenly appeared on top of the wall.

Delila I have been finding dead birds in my yard this last week, today a male blackbird and earlier two bluetits.Can’t see anything wrong with them…other than the fact they’re dead of course.The awful heatwave?

I think every garden will have the odd rat. We had a few recently and discovered they were coming in to eat the fruit that had fallen from trees and not been picked up. Cleared that up and we don't see any anymore.

We have an outbreak of bird flu so we are encouraged to report dead birds. They are vaccinating penguins as a protected species.

Living on a farm I see rats on a daily basis - they burrow under the chicken house to steal their food and during the winter when we're allowed to feed the many beautiful birds who visit, they make camp in the nearby bushes to pick up dropped seed and then scale the entire feeders like the squirrels when they're full with nuts. They're part of the eco system. I find the idea of putting out bait (always poison) by people who just can't get a grip on their own senses abhorrent. They need to accept the need to co-exist. Rats are timid and only venture near humans if humans leave a food trail.

I saw a rat in my garden recently. I banged on the french doors and it scuttled off, not to be seen again. However I have a fox family too. My garden is very wild and overgrown and I'm happy to have the foxes. When the cubs were smaller I was feeding them, until I saw a neghbourhood cat coming to eat the food so I stopped! I loved watching the fox cubs playing when they were smaller. Unfortunately my neighbour is nagging me to get my broken fence fixed as she blames it for the foxes getting in her garden and wants them gone. I did tell her that fixing the fence won't stop them but she doesn't believe me. Sadly I can't afford the repair quote at the moment. As far as I know the foxes go from garden to garden the length of the road so fences don't stop them .They have dug under into the next door garden the other side and their fence is fine!

How sad. Yes, possibly something to do with the heatwave Oreo.

Rats are everywhere you are never more than 15 metres away from one. At the end of the day they are just animals.

Animal rescue centres are overwhelmed with the amount of wildlife being brought in suffering from dehydration 😥

Go very careful where you put bait or poison. My sister and my niece had 2 dogs both poisoned on a walk. One survived after several weeks of vet treatment but sadly the other one died. People were putting it in food and local vets had seen many, many cases of dogs and cats being poisoned.

Milliedog Indorex spray just spray across window edge bottom and doorway bottom at floor level. They won't cross it and it lasts even after washing the floor. Amazon is usually best price. It's a household flea spray but we use it to stop ants
