Old photos

My husband has lots of family photos taken when he was younger and has put them down on disc with captions, in the hope that the grand-children will be interested later on. We have many photographs of ourselves in younger days with all the friends we have made, and it is sometimes sad to think 'OH! he/she is no longer here' but then remember the really happy times we were fortunate enough to spend together. We have put our cine-films on to disc also, since these were beginning to fade.

That is priceless number I managed to read the article and also read it to DH who thought it was hilarious

Thank you. I have now added to my profile a photo of his gravestone. Someone a while ago made disparaging remarks about the size, but it was all that my mother, a young widow with a baby on the way, could afford.
In a lighter vein, there is a pic of a magazine article from the 60s that I thought a few folk might find amusing.
And after it`s unveiling at the Kelvingrove, I`m getting more and more eager to see Mia`s portrait!

I love all old photos too so had a look at yours and saw also the pictures of Mia. I had the priviledge today of being present at the unveiling, in Kelvingrove Art Gallery, of Mia's portrait by that renowned artist SOOP. It is delectable in pink and white. Not many cat's portraits have been exhibited at Kelvingrove!!

You`re so right Pogs, I just wish I had more old photos, when my grandma died, all hers went to my uncle and then to my cousin. It`s true what you say about modern photos, we have some from the 70s, coloured photos, have been in albums, covered over, all this time, but they have turned orange. We still have the negatives somewhere, but it`d be a hell of a job sorting through `em all!

I absolutely love looking at my vast collection of old photos. Make me smile, make me cry but most of all remember how good my life has been.

I do wonder if the quality of todays photo paper will allow people to do the same. My daughter has given me lot's of photos of DG but they have faded or the colour has altered. I know they are all on memory sticks or whatever but it is not easy to replace them.

The old Box Brownie photos are still as good as the day were taken. I do so love seeing the change in fashion etc. too. Didn't people have good old fashioned fun. They all look so happy on the old Sharabang, going to the seaside for the day or fun fairs etc. Life was tough but there is something nice and kind in their faces.

Photos are our history nd something to treasure.

Perhaps that's it - we were younger, and our characters/experiences hadn't shaped our faces yet! Wouldn't want to go back to those times though, I don't think. absent, you are very well-toned and also very attractive!

Marelli I wasn't quite attractive then and I'm not now, so it isn't a problem. I was younger and the muscles were a bit more toned, but that's about it.

I do know what you mean about feeling a bit sad when we look at photos of how we looked before, though. Lurkio - Marsco - and I have been friends since beginning working together 32 years ago. We socialised together with our DH's and looking back at the photos that were taken back then, really makes us realise now, that we were actually quite attractive - but so lacking in confidence at the time that we didn't see ourselves as so! Now, we have the confidence, but ....!

I`ve tried putting captions on, but they never appear when they come on my profile. Yes, that photo is very poignant, I have several old photos of my parents, but only that one of them together. They wed in January 1942, he was killed in December 1942, and I was born in June 1943.

Thanks for putting up the photo's, I enjoyed seeing them. The sad thing is, number, that when I was younger I didn't appreciate myself. I always thought that I was very plain and mousy, but with hindsight I was actually thinner and prettier than I knew. I think a lot of people might say the same.
I'm a bit of an oddity I think; I actually really enjoy looking at people's photographs. It's just a pity that it's so hard to caption photo's on Gransnet, I'd love to have a bit of information alongside the photo's. The one of your parents' wedding must be especially poignant for you.
