Can you remember where you were on this day, exactly 50 years ago?
I was holidaying on a farm on Anglesey.

I was 17 and in bed.
Sometime, very late, I heard my Mum telling my brother (15) to go to bed and she didn't care about men on the moon.
He was protesting that it was important as history was being made.
I don't know if he ended up seeing it all, or not.
(must ask).

I was at college in 1969. I can remember the launch and staying up to watch the landing.

I was four and in my parents living room. I remember looking through the window up at the sky in the hope that I might see the rocket.

We'd just bought our first house so were busy working/decorating etc.
I do remember we tried to convince Granny that men had landed on the moon but she kept insisting that it would never happen in her lifetime!

We were on holiday in Bournemouth .in a beach hut. DD was 4 and DS not thought of. I remember everyone had a newspaper and all the benches and wheelchairs had someone sitting reading about the moon landing.

The two say ought to be sat.

As for the moon landing, as a family, we went to bed early and set our alarm clocks. We all got up and say round the television in the middle of the night (or so it seemed), and say watching in awe as The Eagle landed.

I was 17 and stayed up all night to watch it. When I dragged myself to work in the morning two much older women I worked with asked why had I bothered to stay up and didn't understand what all the fuss was about!

Septimia Tue 16-Jul-19 20:33:47

I was at school. Sat up most of the night with my mum and dad to watch it.

I was 20 something, had had a tough day at work and went to bed early! My flatmates told me about it over breakfast, then it was discussed all day at work. I remember being rather bored with it all.

nonnasusie Tue 16-Jul-19 20:18:45

I was 20 and my grandad was living with us at the time. I can remember that he didn't believe it was real and it was all a con trick!

What I hadn't remembered was that I was just 3 months pregnant with my first child. I may not even have had it confirmed at that time.

I was 16. My sister and I were staying with an aunt who lived in a large city, we were country folk. Seemed very exciting, and we watched the moon landing, but I didn’t know much about it, no interest in current affairs back then. I started work soon after, felt very grown up.

I sat watching with my 3 month old baby daughter on my lap it was mesmerising.

As an afterthought, I feel really shocked now when I see them planting the American flag on the moon’s surface. The moon doesn’t belong to America, or to any other country for that matter.

Grandma70s Tue 16-Jul-19 19:18:23

I had been married less than a year, and we were living in our first flat. We didn’t have television. I think I knew it was happening, but wasn’t very interested. I’m still not. I prefer the romantic, poetic image of the moon as a thing of beauty.

I was in the Common Room of my teacher training college in Manchester. Everyone was watching the tv.

I was a couple of years younger than you were ninathenana and likewise don't remember anything. I have no recollection of talking about it at school either.

NotAGran55 Tue 16-Jul-19 18:58:53

I was 14 and on holiday with my family in a caravan in Stokes Bay . We huddled around a tiny TV to watch it .
It was my ( now ) husband’s 10th birthday.

ninathenana Tue 16-Jul-19 18:57:48

I was 13 embarrassingly I don't remember anything about it

rosecarmel Tue 16-Jul-19 18:47:24

Sorry about the baby ..

I was 9, on vacation with my family in a little bungalow on the coast, everyone crammed up together in front of the tube, when it landed everyone hollered, I mean the entire street of bungalows was in celebration mode, it was really exciting .. smile

BlueBelle Tue 16-Jul-19 18:39:52

I was largely pregnant with a second baby and can’t remember anything about it

NannyJan53 Tue 16-Jul-19 18:39:37

I was 15 at still at school. I stayed up most of the night to watch it, whilst my parents and brother went to bed!

MiniMoon Tue 16-Jul-19 18:37:20

I was at technical college learning secretarial skills that I never used!
I remember being disappointed that I couldn't see the moon launch live.
