If your doing it as a grandchild of an Irish citizen you need to go on the foreign birth register first, this takes 12 months plus and costs a few hundred euro.
You may then apply for an Irish passport.
I did it simply as my father was born in Ireland, I got birth and marriage certificates, filled in the application and got my passport within 6 weeks, it was under 100 euro.

I am doing it but Germany rather than Ireland, have had to gather various documents and info that's as far as I have got so far.

I’d do it like a shot, so that I could have the retirement, in an EU country, I’d always planned.

A friend of mine did this. Her grandparents are from Dublin. She had to get hold of various documentation and it was then fairly simple. She does a lot of travelling.

Sorry, just ignore the previous. I’m having a small brain fart about Irish automatically and Irish by descent.

My ex-husband, born in Northern Ireland, and thus legally Irish, did. Thankfully both my children are also Irish (and British).

I’m not sure I’d bother unless it is citizenship, not just a passport, you mean.

people whom i know with irish ancestry did this long ago before brexit.
they travel with both uk and irish passports, just in case there is any incident where it is safer not to be aligned with usa.
i think it's quite straightforward to get an irish passport if you have one GP born in ireland. island of.

Has anyone applied for this and been successful?
I am considering applying. My DGF was Irish.
