Acording to the news this morning, chocolate is supposed to keep you young, hands up all the grannies on here who are still in their early teens..

I saw a neurologist a few years ago who recommended 2 squares of 70% chocolate, 2 strong coffees and a glass of red wine a day.
Plus statins which I ignored 🤣

That's my kind of doctor 😇

I eat chocolate every day. I take statins and I drink red wine ( not every day, though) I am drinking a strong coffee right now. Wahay! 🤩

Firing on all cylinders nanna8!! 🤩

Pre pandemic I couldn’t keep chocolate in the house without eating all of it but worrying about food supplies taught me to not binge ( at least not as much). And I got into a habit of wanting to finish off my evening meal with something chocolatey to draw a line under my days eating. It used to be half a KitKat. I still can’t keep crisps in the house and I wouldn’t trust myself with a box of chocolates, though. I’ve bought some dark chocolate coated dates, ginger and cherries to eat at Christmas (they were from a local indie veggie shop that I like to support as they delivered to us during lockdowns). I’m hoping that I can limit my consumption to a few a day…

Oh my: the children might be forced to take me out and shoot me, as I might otherwise live forever.

Ha ha Oreo I was looking for a gift... but had it been a savoury snacks aisle (eg, crisps and twiglets) I would need blinkers!

Darn it. My Bournville isn’t the new good one. I’ll just have to eat my stash of it quickly so I can move on to the healthy version…

You will just have to eat double the quantity for the same benefit until you finish your stash MayBee70, which if you’re like me won’t be too much of a hardship over Christmas!

No need to apologise Casdon - I was amazed!
I rarely use Tesco and hardly ever go down the chocolate aisle.

Yeah right! 😁 me neither.

I'm not but I will be !
Like many I control my consumption so as not to resemble the Trump Blimp.

Is anyone running a proper clinical trial? If so, I'll volunteer to try out the chocolate and red wine, please.

luluaugust Tue 16-Dec-25 10:42:52

Perhaps it should be now 🥳

pably15 Tue 16-Dec-25 10:38:39

Nana8...you're doing all the right things...Pity it's only the statins that's on prescription...

Casdon Tue 16-Dec-25 08:20:16

Apologies, I didn’t know that NotSpaghetti, I was thinking of the standard Bournville, which from memory I think only has about 40% cocoa - I was surprised when I found that out.

NotSpaghetti Tue 16-Dec-25 02:28:19

Bournville doesn’t cut it MayBee70, because the cocoa content is low. You could try Aldi Moser Roth, which is 85% cocoa, I think they do one that’s 70% too. I like the Co Op fair trade Irresistible 85% one best, but I think you have to try quite a few to decide what suits you.

Bournville definitely has a 70% one now.

Spotted it on the shelf in Tesco.
They call it Bournville Intense

I hadn’t thought to look at the ingredients as it doesn’t taste very sweet…

I can’t bear coffee. No hope for me, then😫

Casdon Mon 15-Dec-25 22:45:20

If only!

Allira Mon 15-Dec-25 22:43:43

😂

You'll look younger and younger!

Casdon Mon 15-Dec-25 22:42:31

I know, it’s tough, as you have to do the same with the wine and coffee too, it’s my life’s work.

What a good idea 😂

I have developed a taste for Lindt dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt. Just a couple of squares every now and then.
Yes, I know salt isn't supposed to be good for us, but we do need some, don't we.
