Phoenix I find that arranging for 3 professional quotes can be just the impetus needed to get a job done. It goes one of two ways, either the price acts like a dose of salts and all obstacles are suddenly gone and the job gets done or else one of the quotes is accepted and the job gets done by someone else. Win, win!

This is the first time I have dipped my toe into the water which is this thread and I have already learned a very useful tip. Never ever buy a Hozelock hose which threads through the centre. The sheer logistics of putting it together is mind boggling, you are truly " superwoman " * Elegran*.
We have a stretchy one and while it has it's good points, when dragging it to the front of the house it developed tiny punctures which spray several feet into the air. My mean streak has led me to learn dodge them rather than replace it and the principle of it is very good .
However as someone said up thread, who needs a hose this weather?

Parts of the hall are still covered in patches where we tested sample pots before buying the paint, so that didn't work!

Our en-suite (sorry, not showing off, it just came with the house!) has a very colourful ceiling, trying to find something to brighten it up first thing in the morning. We have certainly managed that.

phoenix that is one reason why I do not buy the small paint pots because that would happen to me- the room would not get painted for yonks for whatever reason.

Ladies, now listen to this. get a pot of paint and put a just a brushfull on the wall, stand back and decide if you like it, you do? good. Now get another brushfull and put it next to the last one, just repeat this process over and over, your wall will be painted and DH can watch the footy.

GandTea unfortunately it is not that simple. Are you aware of the various shades of whites never mind shades of other colours? We really have to take our time and we need many little patches because we may start off thinking that we fancy a light white but end up with a pale green.

May I remind you that you are being a tad sexist thinking that only a man is watching the football! I am multi tasking going between Andy at Queens, the football and GN.
Would you care to offer painting my rooms as well as phoenix's walls?

I was not being sexist, I am aware that you ladies also like sport, but your DH's deserve it more. GnT heads out the door fast.

CG, you have just reminded me that we have a dual screen option on our TV, perhaps now is the time to try it, Footy and Tennis.

G&T I am on my own so I can please myself-leading a very relaxed way of life. I can watch what I want, when I want and if I fancy cereal for supper I can have it without having to consider anybody but my cat and she does not mind what I do!

As said before, I would be quite happy to start the emulsioning in the hall, but I believe that there is proper order to these things, and it would seem that the emulsioning comes last !

You needn't do the emulsion last - the top coat on the woodwork can go on after the emulsion. If you prepare the doors and get the undercoat on them, it starts the ball rolling so that Mr P is motivated to do the ceiling. Even if he isn't, you could do the walls before the ceiling and stand by to wipe off any splashes on your nice neat walls (swearing at Mr P as you do so). Any splashes on the undercoat will wipe off before the top coat goes on.

Get stuck in, phoenix or you could wait for ever.

Watching this decorating theme with interest, Mr M started well about 2 months ago but has paused, we still have masking tape around door locks etc, it is nearly finished but doors need another coat. Also Mr M mourns the loss of oil based paint, none of the water based paints last as long.

Many years ago I left exdh watching TV while I went upstairs to do the "cutting in" in the spare bedroom.

Armed with my trusty 2inch brush, I got stuck in painting around the door frame and doing the top line of the ceiling and the bottom line of the skirting boards. When I finished I decided to paint a square foot or so, in order to get a better idea of how the colour was going to look.

Before I knew it, 3 hours had passed and I had done a whole wall

I know it's not the recommended sequence, but I always do ceiling, walls, woodwork. I now use a fast drying water based gloss for woodwork.

I've painted more than my fair share of window frames, skirtings and doors, while not so dh did the paper hanging. Since living alone I realise that paper hanging is the fun bit, so now it needs painting I've decided to move.

Hi just popped in for bit of quiet time.

Had hoped that after today it would
be a good while before we have any more (lovely) workmen drinking tea and eating bickies in our kitchen or garden (remember that bit of warn dry spell?) for the last 5 months we seem to have been living in a cafe even with at one point no actual kitchen

No such luck the roof is leaking and one radiator is not working!
Hey ho.
To cut to the chase. I'm sitting looking out on to our patio and it's a grim sight.
We have plenty of pots of flowers but the slabs are ingrained with all the mud and dirt from the work we have had done.
My little karcher is a hundred or so miles away at DS.

So what about if used a hard broom and some cheap bleach??

Any suggestions very welcome
