Hi, I'm a first time, single Grandmother to lovely 14month old twins who are now both toddling.
I look after them twice a week and it is becoming more challenging for me to keep up as they are so active and are starting to be competitive with each other now.
I would love some useful tips from others with twin experience please!

Carol, I fell your elation. What a wonderful time you've had today. thanks wine

feel. My fingers can't spell tonight. And I don't even have the excuse of an i-pad.

What a fantastic day! Twins Polly and Alice have been weighed by the neonatal community midwife, and Polly has reached 8 lbs, Alice 7 lbs. Seems such a long time ago that they were born - they're 4 1/2 months old now and should only have been born 6 weeks ago. They are both smiling and interacting with everyone now, and getting through all their preemie baby tests successfully.

My best wishes to anyone who has grandchildren in Special Care following premature birth. The NHS has done my family proud!

Wonderful Carol. Much love to you and your special twin grandchildren. Ours are now 5. They've spent today here, and they are a joy, so good at sharing. I think all babies should be twins (though perhaps not, those first few months were hard work!!)

Carol Wed 15-Feb-12 20:49:55

Thanks digikidnan. My grandsons are three and a half and so full of beans, but such lovely boys and they adore each other - always holding hands and hugging. If you reprimand one of them for being a bit rough, the other will say 'don't tell my brother off, he's my best friend!' They get into all sorts of mischief. I can only guess what it'll be like when the two sets of twin cousins get together at 2 and 5 years respectively. They'll be like a mischievous troupe of monkeys!

I've just put a delightful photo of Polly and Alice on my profile. It was taken this evening. They really are the cuddliest babies now they have started to laugh and gurgle. Such a huge relief to see them thriving after their very early arrival.

They look wonderful! Enjoy! smile

Such a delight carol well done to your DD and of course her DP who had a bit of an input, they have come on beautifully since the first pic you took of them, those two little boys look so full of mischeif I can see it in their faces they are adorable and so handsome your eldest DGS at 12 seems so grown up,lovely.

Thank you glammanana. We've had some fun this weekend with the twin grandsons, who are into everything now, and believe that a hurried 'sorry, mummy' with a winning smile fixes everything! That includes lobbing the contents of her purse down the toilet (they were looking for pennies - notes and silver did not qualify, so down the loo they went).

I am the mother of twins girls and they have baby daughters 2 months apart in age. When they bring them to visit it is like seeing and experiencing them all over again, as they both look and behave like their mums did. Suprisingly they are both second children and their older brother and sister are both completely different in all ways. I also had a son 21 months after the girls and when they all arrive at the same time, with six grandchildren, I feel the same buzz as I did when looking after the three of them when they were small.
I have a cupboard full of toys, books, jigsaws, games, colouring books, etc. so that they are never bored when they visit. I also have nursery rhyme songs that we sing and dance to. It can all be packed away when they are gone, but I want it to be fun when they are here.

I can sense your delight in your lovely grandchildren Maureen. Isn't it fabulous to have these babies in our lives, amongst the other children and grandchildren? I love it when my lot turn up and the house is filled with laughter and everyone talking over each other, like they did when we were all at home together. They turn the place upside down, and I will find toy cars, remote controls, ornaments, books and colouring pencils in the most unlikely places days after they have been. When they all go back to their respective homes, I love the tranquility, too!

Thanks Carol. I am just off to collect my 5 year old grandaughter from school and my OH is off to collect her 5 year old cousin from a different school. We are meeting up with them both in the park so that they can play together. They will have a lovely surprise as they didn't know they are both coming to us for tea.

My SIL, who manages a Sunday football team and supports Manchester United, has treated his twin daughters 4 and 1/2 months old, to United babygros. He is so proud of his girlies, and has had a photo taken of them all together in their football colours. My daughter couldn't hold the camera still for laughing. I'll post the photo on my profile. I can see these girls are going to have their own Sunday league girls' team by the time they are 5.

I love your pictures of your grandchildren Carol - how amazing to have so many twins in your family. There was no history of twins in my family when I had mine, but two cousins followed me and had twins too. I would still have been surprised if I had twin grandchildren though. You sound so proud of yours.

Carol Sat 03-Mar-12 00:08:23

Maureen I had twins naturally, and there were none already in the family, then both my twin daughters had IVF and were lucky for it to not only succeed first time, but for both to have twins. We are so lucky x

Carol Fri 16-Mar-12 18:06:14

I'm putting a new photo on my profile. It's my twin daughters with their children - twin boys 3.1/2 years and twin girls 4.1/2 months. I've been waiting for a photo of them altogether and they've managed it at last, this afternoon. Lovely! smile

jeni Fri 16-Mar-12 18:22:49

You look more like their sister than motherenvy

Annobel Fri 16-Mar-12 18:22:55

Gorgeous, Carol and haven't those babies grown! smile

glammanana Fri 16-Mar-12 18:28:40

Oh what lovely children aren't we all so lucky to be so blessed. remind me I said that next time I am baby-sitting grin

Carol Fri 16-Mar-12 18:29:19

They've been weighed today Annobel. Alice, who was the smallest at 2 lbs when born, has overtaken Polly this week. 9,13 and 9, 11. They're coming on in leaps and bounds. smile

harrigran Fri 16-Mar-12 19:08:50
