Grandparents required

thank you all for your kind words sbagran, i have thought about people in homes , but fear sadley in this day and age people may think we are there for the wrong reasons, and yes i think it is important for all partys to be checked for safety, can never be to careful these days.

What a sad story Mammamia and what a lovely Mum you are to think the way you do.
Unfortunately I am too far away - down in the West Country - or I would offer my services, as although I have four grandchildren (14yrs down to 7months) I have more than enough love to share.
Are you a Church-goer? If so, have a word with your Priest or Minister as it may be that they may know of a lonely person who would really appreciate and benefit from being 'adopted'?
You work with vulnerable adults so you are obviously aware of CRBs. In your working role, I imagine you come into contact with Social Workers - could you have a confidential chat with one of them and see if they know of anyone who would benefit from being 'adopted' by you?
On a wider scale, have you thought of visiting a residential home, especially as you have CRB cover? My Mum was in a residential home and many of the other residents hardly ever had visitors and were delighted when we went in with our young grandchildren. (Mum wasn't too impressed at 'sharing' her great-grandchildren but soon realised how thrilled the others were and how lucky she was to have us visiting - you wouldn't have that problem!)
I am sure you don't need to be told this, but please check out any 'applicants' you get - especially if you get to the point of allowing 'adopted' grandparent take your little one out or have unsupervised access. I am our Parish Safeguarding Officer so child protection is always on my mind - as I said I am sure you would be aware but I can't help making sure.
