New grandchild in 2013?

I know there are a few of us in happy anticipation of a new grandchild this year. My daughter's baby is due in February and she's chosen NOT to know the gender; although names for either have been chosen and I do like them both very much. I am very excited at the prospect of being present at the birth, as I was with daughter's first baby - and happily my lovely son in law is glad to share the experience.
Who else is an expectant gran/grandfather?

Well....all the fuss has died down and mum is being allowed home later today, which is very good news, and I can wait a little longer for my grandson to make his debut in a few days' time. Well done the doctors and nurses, who have patched mum up so she's not in as much pain now. Baby is fine. smile

I'm also due to be a second time granny in May - 3 days after the first one's 2nd birthday. They had the 20 week scan last week and we know its a boy and all is well. The first one was a bit traumatic as she had pre-eclampsia so is being monitored carefully this time.

Ours are at a distance and I have coped by visiting once a month for one night and with Skype in between. Skype has made such a difference and our little man now sits in front of the computer and demands "Ganny", which is lovely.

Exciting times smile

Just heard the consultant says 'no!' Wants to wait about 3 more days, so baby's lung maturity is assured. Giving mum the relevant steroid this afternoon, just in case of the need for emergency c-section. Baby's actual due date was 3 weeks hence, and planned delivery in 12 days. Poor mum has to stay in hospital now, till baby arrives.

On pins today! Son and partner have been at the maternity hospital since yesterday afternoon, as she keeps feeling sick and having pains, and now she's on a drip because she's a little dehydrated. Three false alarms in as many days. Baby due in 12 days, but now they're waiting for the consultant to decide whether to deliver now or not. It's a planned c-section. My patience is wearing thin with excitement and anticipation grin

Congratulations Grannydougs how thrilling for your family, looks like there will be lots of June/July babies even William and Kate are due around the beginning of July...
I have a little voice in my head telling me that our new grandchild will be a girl, I always get an inkling soon after I'm told a new baby is on the way and I've rarely been wrong...
What an excited bunch we are..

Grannydougs Wed 16-Jan-13 14:04:22

I'm going to be a first time granny in July!!!! We are soooo excited as my daughter and son in law have been married 9 years - I thought I was near going to experience this! We all just can't wait.

pollyann Welcome to GN, keep sharing and you will get into stride! flowers I didn't even look at this thread (because unless something happens between now and March) I'm not expecting any grandbabies this year! But I've now read everyone's wonderful news and am amazed at the explosion of little people being grown.

Marelli Sun 06-Jan-13 20:07:02

Pollyann, I've just read your post about your grandchild that's due next month. You must be so excited! You say that it's hoped that the baby's going to be a boy - and that your son-in-law's mother is old-fashioned. It's lovely that you feel as you do - a baby is a joy and brings such love along with it. Whether this little person is a girl or a boy it will be cherished, I'm sure. flowers

That's great Gorki. I look forward to hearing much more of you. We are a friendly crowd and sometimes a little bit whimsical, or should I say crazy? If there are arguments, well, that's just the grit in the oyster that makes the pearl that is G'net. smile

nanapug Sat 05-Jan-13 13:54:48

No babies for us this year (barring accidents ;)) but how I would love another one. Our littlest GC is 15 months now and such a big girl already. I do hope she is not the last.

soop Sat 05-Jan-13 12:54:47

Gorki How lovely for you. Having family so close is such a bonus. 600 miles separate us from the youngest grandchild. Never mind, we get to visit as often as we can. Where there's a will... A very warm welcome to Gransnet. smile

Gorki Sat 05-Jan-13 11:02:51

Many thanks. Yes I am quite new to all this and haven't got the hang of all the abbreviations yet! I am enjoying being involved and reading all of the posts. It seems a very friendly network.

annodomini Sat 05-Jan-13 10:35:21

Gorki - welcome if you are new to posting. Great news and something lovely to look forward to in the gloomy days of winter. Yes, you are very lucky to be so involved in the lives of your grandchildren. smile

We are looking forward to the birth of a new granddaughter in May.My son and his wife live only 10 miles away so we hope to see the baby quite often. This will be their first baby as they only got married in July. Our other grandchildren are twins belonging to my daughter and husband. They will be 6 in May and are delightful. We look after them several times a week which we love. They are fairly local as well.We are very lucky.
