This isn't my story, but of someone I know of, which I am telling as a word of warning after reading another post about `moving to be near son`.
This lady's son wanted a bigger house but couldn't afford it. The lady in question is a widow and he is her only child. He has a wife and twin sons. I am going back a few years and haven't heard how it is panning out as it is a friend of a friend.
The lady, sold her house and gave the cash to her son so he could buy the place he wanted. She was expecting a `granny flat` to be built on this house. Initially, she had a room in the house for her and her little dog waiting for extention work to start. She joined the family for meals and sitting time. Her DIL didn't like the dog so ended up spending more time in her room with the dog.
In the end they built a sort of mobile home for her at the end of the garden which made her feel that was her place and that is where she should stay. Mind you when they both were out at work she was more than welcome to come into the house to look after the twins.
Bearing in mind she gave them £250,000 I find this disgraceful treatment.
