Does anyone still have a brag book? If not, consider this your brag thread.
We thought some of you might want to share a proud moment or funny story about your grandchildren and a dedicated thread might be a good idea. Have they asked you an embarrassing question in the supermarket, announced their future (surprising) profession, or finally mastered reading all by themselves. Share your stories - we'd love to hear them.

I think something very physical like that can be very good for stress and anxiety. And I bet she feels brilliant now she's done it!

morethan2 Tue 20-Sept-16 19:20:01

That's good to hear. It does look scary so well done her.

Thanks greenfinch

Greenfinch Tue 20-Sept-16 13:41:37

Well done to her Katek

My Dgd completed a Go Ape course on Saturday complete with aerial walkways, tree climbing and treetop zip wires. This from a 10 year old who suffers from significant anxiety issues following the death of her father. She was so proud of herself and Dd said she was much more confident when she completed the course. She's learned that even if things are scary, facing up to your fears can have a positive outcome. Very proud of her,

I noticed my very health concious DD is putting a cake in GS1's lunch box, but he eats so very little that I imagine she doesn't care what it is as long as it gets swallowed.

annodomini Sun 18-Sept-16 11:46:58

I used to put a 'fun size' Mars Bar or Milky Way in their lunch boxes and they seem to have grown into normal, healthy adults! Mind you they also had chicken drumsticks or cold sausages.

Falconbird Sun 18-Sept-16 11:19:49

Is it just me but I don't think teachers should be inspecting children's packed lunch boxes. Way back in the 70s I would always put a bar of chocolate in the kids' lunch boxes to give them a bit of fun and some energy. One teacher was always confiscating them and didn't give them back!!!

Surely what a parent wants to put in their child's lunch box is their own business.

What no chocolate.and.crisps?

At my gcs school, they had a health food inspection of their packed lunches. Those whose lunches included unhealthy food were given a letter to show Mummy. My 5 yr old gd was the only one in her class not to receive one. Think she felt left out. Her mother asked what was in the letter and she retorted "I don't know do I ? I didn't get one !'.

morethan2 that's really good new, life is really difficult for autistic people, and for their families, hope he enjoys his job

morethan2 Mon 12-Sept-16 21:03:55

So do I. He's such a kind lad but that's lost on some people and difficult to see because of his autism. His social awareness is zero but his technical and spatial awareness are amazing.

Deedaa Mon 12-Sept-16 20:36:06

I do hope he does well morethan

Scooter58 Mon 12-Sept-16 08:05:32

Aw that's brilliant morethan,no wonder you are proud.Good luck to him in his new job.

I've just seen a picture of my daughter and first grandson (21) together smiling. He's autistic and had a few bumps along the way. He hasn't been able to get a job since leaving college and has hardly come out of his bedroom for months. Just eating sweets and playing games. ( anyone who has dealt with autism knows trying to persuade them to do somthing they don't want to do is near impossible) well he's got a job in a shop that sells mobile phones. I don't want to get my hopes up too much just in case but it would be nice to think he was settled and one less worry for me! Selfish I know.

Scooter58 Sun 11-Sept-16 22:37:43

Thanks Deeda,he's doing okay so far, takes after his Nana?(I played football for years),he's quite in demand at the moment,Rangers,Kilmarnock and Hamilton have all asked him to train with them but he's chosen my team at the moment hence why I am all chuffed ??,only 8 though so the important thing is he is having fun and enjoying it ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Deedaa Sun 11-Sept-16 21:05:13

That's great Scooter58 he must be pretty good!

Not sure if this counts but DD had her gender scan at 16 weeks & it's clear, as can be at that gestation, that it's a boy - so happy she cried so that's boy No 3 for her, funnily enough I didn't have strong feelings for the gender either way, though suspect DDiL is going to have a girl

Scooter58 Sat 10-Sept-16 00:13:59

My young grandson Finlay aged 8 has tonight made his debut for the youth academy of Motherwell Fc,the team I have supported all my life, and he scored a screamer of a goal, well done Finlay from a very proud Nana ⚽️? X

I think this is a wonderful thread, hopefully it'll stop me showing photos to all and sundry and boring them to death about my GC, who I adore! The British are very good at being humble, wouldn't it be wonderful if we all kept a 'brag' book about ourselves and our own achievements, even if we were the only ones to look at it!

MargaretinNorthant Thu 08-Sept-16 11:11:53

Alishka
He is now a qualified Micro-Biologist and has had a second interview for a job, we are waiting to hear if he has got it. I didn't hear all the job entailed, but it involved writing up research for magazines and writing those awful little leaflets you get in your box of pills. HE said it was translating Doctor speak into English. He is such a lovely boy, has never used his Dyslexia as an excuse, and the poor lad did struggle so with his reading, he said the letters jumped about all over the page. I am so proud of him

LullyDully Thu 08-Sept-16 08:26:40

It just shows you!!!!

Deedaa Wed 07-Sept-16 21:21:41

That's brilliant MargaretinNorthant smile

annodomini Wed 07-Sept-16 16:58:02

margaretinnorthant you have every right to be proud of your GS. What a super achievement. Good luck to him for his (bright) future.

Alishka Wed 07-Sept-16 15:50:38

margaret I'm tearing up reading this. What an absolutely marvellous achievement, and against all odds he's made such a success of his life so far.sunshine (nearest thing to a gold star I can do smile

So, what next, does he have any plans, do you know?
