Nature book suggestions please

I'm still finding Children's Encyclopedia really useful for quick reference and the pictures are really excellent and often self-explanatory. It also makes a great Christmas or birthday present.

Thanks Luckygirl, the Maurice Pledger books look great, will definitely be ordering. Will also look out for the Usborne books Greyduster. Actually the mention of Usborne triggered a memory and a trip to the loft where I found a forgotten book. Too old for her now but good to have it back on the shelf.

I had to look up Maurice Pledger on Amazon, and found many books by him. They look great, I am only sorry I have no grandchildren young enough to appreciate them. And some used copies in good condition are only a penny each! (plus postage, of course)

They sound like fun! GS used to love pop up books. Also try the Usborne Nature Trail series.

Google Maurice Pledger - he produces amazing books with pop-up pages of beautiful illustrations of wild life scenes in different locations, with the addition of the sounds of those animals on each spread. Turn the page and there is a key which tells you the names of the animals and a bit about them. The books are a bit fragile, but if read under supervision a four year old should be OK with it - I read them to my 2 year old.
