My first post

Hello and welcome to GN Terri823 - and congratulations in advance on your new grandchild. My next (9th) is due in November so, like you, I'm also in a state of anticipation. This is the first baby for my son and daughter-in-law and it's a girl.
I have a five year old grandson fast asleep upstairs right now, but after having a few days with us he's off home tomorrow.

Hi and welcome. I'm fairly new here myself and can't understand how it took me so long to find GN.
It is so exciting becoming a grandparent. I thought it would never happen and then all our DC began and we've had one DGC almost every year for over a decade!
It's also interesting how the tables are turned and one's DC educate us in the art of being parents.
I often wonder how I managed before the days of mobile phones, intercom, instant breast milk substitute, etc.
I still can't collapse a modern buggy down.

I hope everything goes well for your DD . I wouldn't want to be pregnant in this heat!

Anticipation and waiting are hard. What a joy the world brings us when a little one again graces our arms and claims our hearts.

Best wishes! You might see if there is a grandparenting course in your area. The purpose of these is to educate grandparents about changes to practices since they had their own children (e.g. car seats, infant feeding, safe sleep, etc.). Many things have changed as we learn better.

Practicing biting your tongue is good training! Gn is a mine of useful information. Let us know when the baby is born but join in on other threads too. gn is about more than just our grandchildren.

Like GA, our 9th grandchild (a boy) is due later this year, in October.

Hello, terri, many congratulations, so much to look forward to, including saying nothing at times . Not long to wait now, do tell us when the little one arrives.

Welcome Terri. Your grandchild will bring you such joy. I have twin granddaughters aged 9 but I still remember the thrill when they were born enjoy and let us know when he arrives.
PS you will do a lot of tongue biting!

Welcome Terri how exciting along with biting your tongue, I wouldn’t start any sentence by saying ‘when you were born I.......’ the Grandparenting Course sounds like a good idea.
My daughter said that you love your children, but you fall in love with your Grandchildren. So true.

Hi terri823 Welcome to GN. It's so exciting when our first grandchild is on the way. I can clearly remember it, and she's 28 now! Wishing you lots of joy.

As ContraryMary says, you fall in love with your grandchildren. We were a bit surprised to be invited to the hospital a few hours after my GD was born. I vividly remember holding her and falling in love with her. A couple of years later we were looking after her when her brother was born. We had precise instructions to drop her off at the hospital to meet her brother. They wanted some family time and we were not in on it. We went and cleaned their kitchen and waited for instructions! Eventually we were told that we could go and meet the baby. We do try to obey instructions and not tread on any toes. Being blunt and honest suits our family.

I fell in love with my GC instantly.

As it's your DD and SIL, if possible befriend and keep in contact with the other set of GP's. Grandparenting is not a competition, if you all get on and form a support group, to be called on by the new parents you will be very much appreciated.

If asked for advice first say 'Well, what did the midwife say?' otherwise prevaricate and ask what the latest advice is …
Don't rush off and buy anything such as prams, cots etc - let them choose and offer to pay if that's what they want

What a lovely welcome, thank you. Already learnt that one Jalima about buying, we got the pram etc but they chose and we just paid. I think my daughter will give me the grandparenting course she has already started Agnurse. Yes she is very hot Grammaretto. Thanks Kittylester, have been lurking reading and will now join conversations. I live in St Ives in Cornwall, a beautiful place. Liz46 she is being induced as she is diabetic and we have had instructions that once he is born there will be an hour of skin to skin with Mum and then the same for Dad whilst she has a shower then we can visit as soon as permitted on the ward after that. She has it all planned! hopefully she has sent a copy of the plan to the baby. {wink}

Welcome terri. How exciting a new grandchild. As others have said, lots of advice here. Do your best to get on with your GC father's family too. That can be a good bond for the future.

Welcome to Gransnet Terri all sorts of information and support on here. Enjoy your new grandson. As others say don't make too many plans to start with things have a habit of turning on their head in an instant.
Just remember the baby has your daughter and son in law to care for him you are there for help and support when asked.
It took me a while to learn to take a step back initially.
