What do your grandkids call you?

Reading the article on here about grandparents names I wonder if anyone else has odd names given by the child that stuck!
My GD spoke early, it was intended I’d be Grandma and her other GM Nanny. But GD decided to call me Munka. I have no idea why or how she came to it! But Munka I am! I like it because it’s her name choice! She knows I’m GM
My other half, not biologically related to her has surname Rabbett and she chose to call him Grampy Rabbit (Peppa Pig to blame there!) he likes that too!
The other GPs are Nanny and Gan Gan!

‘Marmar’ because thr first one couldn’t manage ‘Grandma’ and it stuck. Great grandchildren call me ‘Marmar Marmar’ I think it might becomes a little longwinded if I were to achieve great great grandmother status ?

My own Mamar was from the Potteries, so not too far away, maybe that's where it came from.

When they were small my son’s children called me Nan and my daughter’s children called me Granny. After a week on holiday together they had swapped over what they called me!

One toddler used to call me Franny, one teenager G’ma once or twice.

Granny by one DD’s children and Christian name by the others.
My neighbour’s GC also call me granny as they play with mine and just picked it up.

I was horrified when another (French) neighbour introduced his GC to me by using my Christian name, next time I will asked to be called granny, like I was taught to address adults as Aunty when I was small and I turn taught my children. Aunty would be too difficult to pronounce.

Granny & Grandpa. One lot of DGC have the same names for their other grandparents, but differentiate by place of residence (as in Sandringham Granny and Osborne Granny, for example) and have never been mixed up. As with some other posters, we chose our names as they were what we were used to from our own grandparents.

Nan.

Although, my grandson had a temporary hearing problem, as a toddler, and could never get to call my dad (his great grandad) anything but "Pom".

Don't know why he heard it like that, but the three that followed him, followed suit and he was never known, by my four grandkids), as anything else. ?

My eldest granddaughter called me Nanny Purple when she was about 6yrs old (she is now 20) She cannot give a reason for this but all subsequent grandchildren continued to call me Nanny Purple until my latest grandson one day called me Purple Head and that seems to have stuck.

Nonna to mine?

I'm a fairly standard NannyB. However DGD, who is half Korean and lives over there couldn't pronounce Halapeoji, the Korean for grandfather and called DH 'Edgy'. The name stuck and 8 years on he's still Edgy (though not all the time wink)

Grandma. Both grandmothers are Grandma because when we were asked what we’d like to be called, that’s what we chose.

I'm called Nanny by my 9yr old twin grandsons and their older brother, my step grandson, calls me by my first name.
My 1yr old granddaughter is at the babbling stage and just starting to say the odd recognisable word.

My husband died suddenly 3 months ago whilst my daughter and her baby were staying with us on an extended visit.
In an attempt to keep granddad's memory alive I would chat to the baby and point out granddad's chair, table etc.
Eventually, she could say her version of grandad which is "Nandad."

I dislike being referred to as a widow so I told baby I was granddad's wife.
Her version came out as "Nandad's Fuff."
I rather like being called Fuff but suspect I shall be called Nanny eventually.

We are Nana and Papa. Little gd doesn’t say a lot of words yet but the lovely feeling I get when she says Nana cannot be measured.

Baggs

They call me by my first name just as everyone else does.

It used to be Branny, then GrannyFirstName, but we're a first name family. All my daughters call me by my first name too. And the grandkids call their parents by first names.

It doesn't make a scrap of difference to the relationships ?

Well said Baggs.
We all know who we are related to but all use first names too.
Why is this so often frowned on I wonder?

Nannee49 Fri 08-Jul-22 21:34:43

Guess my user name says it allgrin

maddyone Fri 08-Jul-22 21:54:55

Nana and Grandad, often Nana Dog and Grandad Dog, because we often looked after/cared for/walked our daughter’s beautiful lab on many occasions. The last time we had her for six months before she flew out to join her family in New Zealand. I quite miss her.

My grandkids call me Nanoi. My oldest grandson changed my name from Nonnie to Nanoi. Did any of your grandkids call you that. I tried looking it up, but I couldn’t find any information. I just call it my special name.
