Talking “Peter Pepper”…. Did you know that he was an actual person? His real name was Pierre Poivre. He was imprisoned in Batavia by the Dutch East India Company in the 1700s for trying to “liberate” clove, cinnamon and pepper plants to grow elsewhere and break the Dutch monopoly on spices. He was employed by the French East India Company and was made Governor of Mauritius for his efforts.
