Is it appropriate for a 65 year old GF to address his attractive GD ... Hi Beautiful? She's 16.

Whiff Mon 19-Feb-24 11:52:29

My 95 year old neighbour calls me nought but a girl I'm 65. I call my grandsons sweet pea or pea. Or there full name is they are up to mischief. My dad called my daughter my gorgeous girl . He called me sixpence. When I got older did ask wasn't I worth a shilling 😂.
I call people love ,darling, sweetheart I never think it's just the way I talk. It's because that's how my extended family talked .
If it's meant as a term of endearment does it matter. But if it's from a creepy person then it's not.

I miss being called love ,darling , sweetheart and other endearments my late husband called me and what my dad did to.

Unfortunately the way words are being changed to mean other things for example sick used to mean someone was sick as in ill or sick as vomiting now it's supposed to mean good.

I stick with the old meanings to word's. Also I spell things out when writing and texting. I remember a friend text me CU. And had to ask what it meant . But that's me I suppose that means I am old fashioned. 🧓

What people are thinking is in mo way insinuated in the question though.

Nothing provocative there.
Is it weird....
No.
Nothing to suspect.

There is no context, we do not know if the OP is male or female, the OP has not come back and finally the use of the word “attractive”.

As well as calling my DGC by extravagent flattering names. I then touch them, hug them and even kiss them.. Oh horror!!!!!!!!

MissAdventure Sun 18-Feb-24 16:18:10

my parents call my 16 yo 'the baby'

Oreo Sun 18-Feb-24 16:07:01

Similar to saying ‘Hi sweetheart’ isn’t it? Nothing wrong with it at all.

maddyone Sun 18-Feb-24 16:03:41

We have many terms of endearment for our grandsons too.

maddyone Sun 18-Feb-24 16:03:09

We both greet our granddaughter with endearing terms such as gorgeous girl, beautiful girl, little darling, darling, special girl, and probably others I can’t think of now. She’s ten years old and we love her. She’s our only granddaughter and I regularly remind her of that and because she’s the only granddaughter, she’s special. Oh yes, I also greet her with little lady.

The majority of opinions seem to be
Yes it’s perfectly fine to call a grandaughter beautiful whether they are 6 or 16

Ideal thread for people to open up and say oh that happened to me blah blah blah and give details that shouldn’t be given

No, I think it's silly and daft -- obviously my granddaughters are beyond beautiful, how dare my words be misused! grin grin

Kate1949 Sun 18-Feb-24 14:45:11

When we see our GD (23), my husband always says 'Hello beautiful' because she is. Inside and out.

Sago

I am always suspicious when a new poster comes on and asks such a provocative question.
This is almost certainly dodgy.

Yes, it's odd.

I've a friend who calls everyone "My Lovely"

MissAdventure Sun 18-Feb-24 13:38:18

It sounds fine to me, I often call my boys handsome.

Provocative and ZERO context 🤔

Chardy Sun 18-Feb-24 12:58:56

I call my adult DC/DGD sisters/nieces/nephews/great nephews&nieces etc the most ridiculous names and terms of affection. And the dogs we dont know and meet on dog walks, but stop and chat to.
