Our 10-year-old DGD stayed with us for a few days in the Easter holidays. She and I finished the cross stitch project we started last time she stayed - a strawberry motif - and sewed a little bag to decorate with it.
I had to do some of the sewing because we had a bit of difficulty with the iron-on interfacing. Does anyone have any idea why it didn't work? I ironed it on and left it to cool right down as per instructions, but when I peeled the paper off, all the bonding came with it. I have used this interfacing before and not had this trouble at all. It is about 3-4 years old.
To stop the bag from going floppy, I used some batting I had from other projects and quilted it on, which would have taken too long for her to do, so that is my work. The pink thread I used matched perfectly, but wasn't very good quality and I wasted lots of time untangling it.
But she did all the straight lines and attached the press stud. And the main thing was that she understood the principles.
I was going to show her how to arrange flowers, too, but she surprised me with this lovely little posy, made from blooms found in the garden. She asked her Opa for secateurs and a vase and did it all herself. I think she can teach me some tricks!
