1890s on Dad’s side, 1870s on Mum’s side. Mum was number 9 of 10 children and she wasvborn during the First World War. It is Anzac Day today and I remember my Great Uncle who was killed in 1916 in France. He was in the AIF and is buried over there having travelled over from Sydney. Only 21, war is an awful thing.

Dad’s 1890s and Mam’s 1900. Dad born 1918 and Mam 1921.

Dad's 1874 and 1882
Mum's 1877 and 1877

I only knew my paternal DGM. I was 12 when she died.
Dad was born 1912, Mum 1915.
Both were in their 30s when I was born.

My Great grandparents were born so long ago it's mindboggling to me. One was born in 1828 in Germany, another 1829 in England, another 1833 in Scotland. One in Indonesia 1845.
3 in Ireland 1838, c1845 . I have researched them all.

Maternals 1880's and 1890's. Paternal not sure but guessing similar. AFAIK, none of my paternal family have ever done any kind of deep dive on the history.
Of course since they don't consider me family after my mother divorced my father for rampant infidelity, I'm not part a part of the Inner Circle.

1870s and 1880s, My great-grandfather was born in the 1830s, before Queen Victoria came to the throne. He was married twice and had 19 children. My parents both born in 1910.

I wonder what they would make of today's world and I wonder what we would make of the worlds they lived in. Sometimes I let my mind drift to my great grandparents and try to picture them going about their days in the same places we know today. Just the small things like a rainy day or getting the washing dry - it is mind boggling!

Maternal grandparents 1880's. Paternal grandparents 1890's.

What would we make of the world of 2226. It will be as different as todays world is to that of our grandparents and great grandparents.

One of DH gt aunts who we knew well and who lived until she was almost 100 (born 1890) was a good storyteller and told our DC about her life growing up in Edinburgh in the early 1900s. Her schooldays, the first world war, all the inventions which she relished.
We must remember to be like her and share our stories.

I look at their wedding photos. A simple affair with a cup of tea afterwards.

Unbelievable what we want from these events today.

Interesting question but I am inclined not to answer for security reasons.

Then why did you ask?

OP, is this another of your surveys? Where is this information headed? Why do you pose a question and then wander off humming?

Good questions

1880s for one pair of grandparents. 1890s the other

1890s or early 1900s for me I think. I'm not sure but my parents were born in the 1920s.

Blossoming Sat 25-Apr-26 19:02:10

One in the 1850s and three in the 1870s.

Hufferlump Sat 25-Apr-26 19:14:42

1901, 1900, 1900, 1903. Both my parents were 'late' babies born in the early 1940s. 1943, 1942.
