A nice way of wording things

Treasure your DIL as she is the key to a great relationship with your grandchildren . I always ask if its convenient to call around . I ask if they need anything bringing before I go. Sometime when we go shopping my grandson and I pick flowers for mummy . We now have to send them for his baby sister but that's ok . I am on hand if she needs help but never push forward . She can message me anytime if she needs a break I'm on hand to take the children so she can go to lunch or hairdressers what every she wants . She is an amazing mum and deserves little treats

I would say a definite "no" to once a week for a couple of hours - this basically rules out half a day out of every seven for her.

I agree. Acknowledge openly that you love coming to see them but only if she is happy for you to come. Tell her she must always say if it becomes too much. Just have that open discussion, showing understanding and let her lead the way.

Oh carry on going unless you start to get the impression that she’d rather you didn’t. It is lovely for you to get to know your new grandchild. You could offer to take him off her hands for a short time, perhaps take baby for a walk, so that she could have a little nap or just put her feet up as she’s probably tired.
