Hello.
I hope it's OK for me to join, I have four grown up children but I'm not a grandma. I'm not sure I will be but I've been looking through the different sections and threads and they are so relevant, helpful, interesting and fun. I'm a great aunt if that counts.

Hello Kindler, welcome flowers. Being a gran is by no means a requirement for GN. smile. We are similar to MN, but different at the same time, if you see what I mean! I hope you will enjoy being on here.

Kindler Thu 14-Apr-16 01:01:22

Hello! Not a gran (though I could be!). I've enjoyed being on (usually lurking ) mumsnet for some years, and am hoping gransnet is similar, but maybe more my (60+) demographic.

Nannarosie67 Wed 13-Apr-16 11:37:58

Ah yes, just found this by clicking 'I'm on'! Thanks again Shysal - ill get there ☺

shysal Wed 13-Apr-16 11:32:31

You do have to keep checking but you can select 'watch this thread' above the posts, then click 'watching' to be taken to the relevant threads. Alternatively, use the other buttons such as 'I'm on', 'last hour' etc.
Hints on how to make words bold etc. are below the threads. You will soon get used to the site, and probably addicted!

Nannarosie67 Wed 13-Apr-16 11:29:14

Btw I only saw your message Shysal after I'd posted my question about how do I know I have a reply!

Nannarosie67 Wed 13-Apr-16 11:25:28

Thanks Shysal (don't know how to make your name blocks!) That's a lovely welcome. Looking forward to the nonsense as much as the sense ☺

Nannarosie67 Wed 13-Apr-16 11:23:07

How will I know if anyone writes a reply to me? Will I get some sort of notification? Or do I have to just keep an eye on the thread? Sorry if that's a silly question, just don't want to appear rude if someone does and I don't reply!

shysal Wed 13-Apr-16 11:17:45

Welcome, Nannarosie flowers. What a lovely picture to receive! He/she will probably be spoilt rotten by your huge clan! I am glad you have enjoyed browsing, you will find plenty of sense and a little nonsense too smile

Hi there,
I joined a few weeks ago as I just happened to see a link from mums net the day my daughter sent me a pic of her little white stick!
Have loved reading the posts when I think of it. This is our first grandchild and not declared publicly yet so this is my little indulgence as I haven't been able to tell all my friends and work colleagues the lovely news!
Not sure what to tell you. I'm a critical care nurse, we have four children of our own (17-24) plus three fostered (12-20), my mum has advanced Alzheimers and has been in a nursing home for the last year. Love walking in the woods with my three dogs, cooking and reading. Oh and have been dabbling in vegetarianism for the last few weeks.
Looking forward to talking to some of you. Have seen from browsing that there is a wealth of all sorts of experience and sense among you!

Hello, Suz12, welcome. I hope you will enjoy your retirement. I don't know how I used to find time to work!

That is good news Morghew. It can be awful being restricted. Take care when you get mobile though! smile

Morghew70 Tue 12-Apr-16 09:58:54

Have just had some good news from the orthopaedic surgeon (who just happens to be skier) that I should be driving within three weeks and I am getting a leg brace this week to allow me to bend my knee. Strange how exciting silly things can be when you're feeling trapped in your own home - for all I know there may be a family of five living upstairs as I haven't been able t get up there since middle of March!

Suz12 Mon 11-Apr-16 20:13:29

Hi, I've just joined and would like to say hello. I have 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson ranging in age from 5 to 12. My grandson and 1 granddaughter live in Sydney. I will be retiring later this year and am looking forward to exploring the site.

shysal Sun 10-Apr-16 20:57:23

My goodness, what a time you are having,*Morghew*! Welcome to Gransnet, hope you will find it is a helpful place to share your woes. There are some very sympathetic ears on here.Take care of yourself. flowers

Morghew70 Sun 10-Apr-16 18:39:52

Don't want to introduce myself with a story of woe, but I'm stuck at home with a broken leg after a skiing accident - my husband died on 8th March after a long illness and I went for bit of a break (ha! ha!) with my DS, DIL and 2 GCs. Just heard someone mention GN - I feel as though I'm more GGN - I'm 72 and have 8 step and biological GC. Eldest step GD is a solicitor of 28. My eldest stepson died in a freak accident last summer aged 54. This last year hasn't been the greatest, but am off to see the orthopaedic consultant tomorrow and am hoping for a plan of action.

Yes Janey welcome-I've only joined recently and thoroughly enjoyed all the posts; some so sad, of course, such is life. We can all share together and "pick each other's brains" ?

shysal Sat 09-Apr-16 13:01:07

Hello janey, welcome! flowers What a young Nan you are! How wonderful to have the youth and energy to have fun with the grandchildren (not that the rest of us don't have fun too)! Some of us have been feeling old after unsuccessfully trying to stand with legs crossed then sit and stand again without using hands or support. Bet you will be able to do it for many years! I thought I was fit until I watched the TV programme on how to stay young!
I look forward to reading your future contributions on here. Enjoy!
