I love the names that some of us give ourselves.dustyangel is my favourite but I did laugh at grannygreyhips. Where are you now?
Love your name oldgoat as well.

shysal Sun 24-Jan-16 11:48:29

Hello, oldgoat, love the name! grin I am another who steers clear of the political and controversial threads. I hope you will make it to a get-together soon. flowers

oldgoat Sun 24-Jan-16 09:40:54

Hello.
I've been a Gransnetters for some time now but never introduced myself. I have two DGS and two granddogs, plus OH -we've been together for nearly 47 years. I spend hours on my fancy new phone reading all the entertaining threads and would love to join in the more political discussions but am a bit scared because they do seem to get very heated and personal at times.I was hoping to meet some other GNers in Edinburgh but we go on holiday the next day so can't make it. Another time perhaps.

*CrazyDaisy, sounds like you are on the way to GN addiction! Be warned, but enjoy it! sunshine

Hello, I've just found this thread too! I joined a few months and then changed my name in the last few weeks as my first Gransnet name was too close to my real name. Sometimes I might want to ask for help without being identified!

I have 9 lovely grandchildren and a wonderful DH.

I'm really enjoying Gransnet with its the wide range of discussions, advice, and amusing things. Thanks everyone, I look forward to checking the themes out every day.

Welcome to the latest new and nearly new members. *Sparklefizz, this thread has only recently been woken up again, no need to apologise, people sometimes introduce themselves when posting for the first time or just wade in. Glad you are all finding your way round! flowers

petitpois Thu 21-Jan-16 16:02:04

Hello Sparklefizz! I'm not sure when I joined Gransnet but I dip in and out and do find it incredibly useful and entertaining. There's always a funny thread to read and make me chuckle. The combined wisdom of such a variety of people is amazing. If I have a question I could ask google, but it's far more fun to ask Gransnet. grin

Sparklefizz Thu 21-Jan-16 11:35:38

Hello, I've been on here for quite a few months and have even posted a couple of times, but I'm only just finding my way round, and suddenly noticed this thread, confused so came to say hello.

I'm divorced, have an adult son and daughter and 3 grandchildren, and 2 little cats, and I love reading everyone's comments.

Sorry I didn't introduce myself sooner. How rude of me. blush

Sadiesnan Thu 21-Jan-16 10:33:43

I'm finding my way round a bit more now and I see how you highlight names on here sadiesnan. And how you use the emoticons smile

I have three gorgeous grandchildren, which is what brought me here really.

Have a nice day everyone sunshinesunshinesunshine

Hello to all and thank you for the opportunity to join and post. I'm an usual member in that I'm in Australia and joined in the hope that someone could assist my research... I've reached a dead end. I believe that this post may have to be redirected to a more suitable subsection but hear goes.

I'm an architectural historian and seeking anyone who can supply some information on the Biscoe family of Melton Mowbray circa 1949. In particular I'm referring to the Biscoe brothers (two?) who emigrated to Hobart, Tasmania around 1950-52. What was unusual was that they organised a prefabricated cottage (made in the UK) to be sent off to Tasmania prior to their arrival. It is this building and the exact location of their destination that I'm hoping to attain. Scant information survives about this prefab house purchase and indeed, I'm even beginning to question whether the surname is in fact Biscoe and not Briscoe. Biscoe is the name given on the surviving documents and I do believe the final destination was one of the outlying suburbs of Hobart. I have posted to a few Biscoe family sites but have failed to turn up any information. Perhaps Gransnet is the solution. The family may not have been long time residents of Melton Mowbray and given the difficulties and confusion following the War it may only have been temporary location in 1949-1950. I welcome any information or suggestions to discover exactly who these people were and would be most grateful if this post could be circulated to others. It's a mystery that I hope to solve . Thanks again everyone. John , (Melbhouse)

Welcome grandmacats. flowers My daughters called my Mum Nanny Cat for obvious reasons, and My Mum-in-law was Nanny Pig, as one lived in the field behind her house! smile

Imperfect27 Sun 17-Jan-16 12:49:50

Aw, thanks shysal! flowers for you too x.

grandmacats - so funny that has stuck! I think when my first (of 4) was born we intended to have a nanny and a nanna, but somehow they just became nanny June and nanny Barbara - loved equally, for very different reasons.

Hi, I'm new here. I have 1 daughter, who will be 40 next week. She has 6 children - she's never done anything by halves. When the first grandkids were born (twins), her husband had a mum and a stepmum. Also, my mum was still alive so daughter suggested I be grandma cats, having 3 cats at that time. Twins now 17 and I'm still grandma cats to them. I like it - feels like me!

It would be an excellent choice Imperfect! grin

I missed this thread when I joined in early January, but have been made to feel very welcome here. I am still finding my way around and have posted on the wrong thread at least once already, but seems par for the course smile.

In years past I had always expected to have the title 'nanny' as / when / if I became a grandparent. My own mother was a very beloved nanny. However DD's MIL is already established as nanny to three other GC, all local to her and my DD - I live 62 miles way. I didn't feel I could distinguish with nanny-Jan as we are both Jans, or nanny seaside as we both live by the sea. I was actually really upset - out of all proportion - for a while. Then the 'fun button' flicked on . Should I be ...
nanny wine wine (makes nannies as well as mummies clever!)
nanny chocolate
nanny teach
nanny cat
nanny farm

I decided in the end to depart from 'nanny' altogether and reconciled myself to being 'granny' short term, but I intend to adopt whatever reasonable attempt my first GC makes upon my name - in about 2 years time !!! Any subsequent GC will have to live with it ... it will probably be 'Gaga' which would be pretty appropriate!smile.

Hi I joined here some months ago then forgot what it was and kept deleting the e-mails thinking it was spam grin I'm so glad I finally had a look one night wondering what graSsnet really was! I've only just seen this thread though so have been posting on other ones for some weeks now. When my first granddaughter was born 18 years ago as her only (in contact) grandma I became Nana which was what my own sons called their grandmothers. My husband wanted to be called Grandpa but when she started to talk she couldn't say that so started calling him Papa - and so he's remained through the subsequent other 3 grandchildren. It was his birthday a couple of weeks ago and my son tried to get our 2 year old grandson to say Happy Birthday Papa on video from NZ. The result is hilarious as he says HB to everything in the room including the cat but not to Papa grin

Hi, I'm new to Gransnet. I like your comments on names for grandmothers. My son surprised us when he and his partner told us they were having a baby. He was never keen before. It seems though that in his partners' country, she's is Danish, they have very specific names for each granny, so we don't actually decide which name to choose, slightly complicated by the fact that there is a step-granny as well.

HannahLoisLuke Sat 16-Jan-16 18:22:06

My grandchildren are all grownup now but they've always called me Tatty, now their girlfriends/boyfriends do too
