Hello!

<pokes head over political threads parapet to assess whether or not it's safe to tie up the last of the (apolitical) bunting>...

in preparation for....

..our very own Gransnet Great Get Together! This Sunday 18th June around midday we will be taking part in the nationwide celebrations, in honour of the late Jo Cox and her belief that we have #MoreInCommon.

We would like to invite you all to bring your own Pimms or tipple of choice and a plate of virtual goodies and come join the fun. If you’re up to baking, we’ve got some tasty recipe ideas…

We’ll be giving away spot PRIZES and sharing silly gifs. We invite you all to share a joke, a funny or heartwarming story or just let us know what you’re up to.

If you prefer to meet up with people nearby in real life there’s plenty happening nationwide. You can check out a local Great Get Together here. Or check out your Gransnet Local page to see if anything’s been organised by a local editor.

There’s been so much sadness in recent weeks and this is the perfect opportunity to show our support for each other and our communities. We hope to see you here on Sunday - bunting lovers or not. grin

glynis1234 Sun 18-Jun-17 13:34:33

Hi, hope everyone is having a great time. I have baked a cake. Enjoy.

NanaandGrampy Sun 18-Jun-17 13:34:13

BBQ is fired up, ribs finishing in the oven , bubbly chilled! I do like a good garden party ????

Pittcity Sun 18-Jun-17 13:33:19

This just happened in Colchester. The gents are our Conservative MP and our Labour candidate!

Blinko Sun 18-Jun-17 13:15:23

Blueberry muffins in the fridge for later... everyone's invited grin

Suzisue Sun 18-Jun-17 13:14:38

Anyone got any room left for a slice of carrot cake? My absolute favourite!

Blinko Sun 18-Jun-17 13:14:12

Ooh, am I too late? Just sipping a cold drink after planting some tomatoes given me by a gardening friend. Feeling hot!

moobox Sun 18-Jun-17 13:06:56

cheers, lizzypopbottle, I am in Northumberland too (chink glasses together- sadly only coconut water)

lizzypopbottle Sun 18-Jun-17 13:01:47

Riverwalk read the welcome at the top of this thread? ? ???

lizzypopbottle Sun 18-Jun-17 12:58:39

Thanks for the invitation. I only just saw it! It's so hot here (Northumberland) that I'm grateful for a get together that doesn't have to be outside! We're all moaning and lying about, complaining of the heat! Here's a joke I've posted before but it's very apt on a hot day like this:

Two parrots sitting on a perch. One says to the other, "Can you smell fish?"

I'm nipping out to Sainsburys so I'll bring back something nice.

DS64till Sun 18-Jun-17 12:04:38

Dipped in to say Hi and wish u all well. Can't get to anywhere due to health issues but all have a fabulous time X?

PoshGran Sun 18-Jun-17 11:59:23

Just popping Tipsy Ginger Cake in 'fridge until it's needed, or cream will go orff in this heat. (Remember, it has to be sliced diagonally or else you don't get the stripes!)

Food related jokes :
I've got a sponge front door. Hey, don't knock it!
Did you know, if a stick insect lays it's eggs in a jar of Bovril it'll give birth to a litter of Twiglets?
(Thanks, Tim Vine)
smile

??So how many of us are here, a shout out maybe ???

ninathenana Sun 18-Jun-17 11:53:36

annsixty gets my vote too

annemac101 Sun 18-Jun-17 11:49:17

Hi from Scotland! This is a surprise to be invited to a party on a Sunday. The kindest thing I've ever done was offer to look after my friend's daughter's baby to allow her to work. I looked after him 2/3days a week for four years to save her paying for childcare. He was a joy and the nicest thing anyone has done for me was for his mum to trust me to look after her precious baby.

justrolljanet Sun 18-Jun-17 11:46:25

Thank you for your kind invitation, such a lovely day for a party, am currently chilling with my husband, son and Scruffalo dog, love days like this :-)

NonnaW Sun 18-Jun-17 11:42:12

Grannyknot no need to feel sheepish, Its always good to hear about acts of kindness. That said, I do agree with others about annsixty, she has gone above and beyond, given her own circumstances.

Pimms, cider and white wine in the fridge, plus I made a strawberry tart/flan thingy yesterday and there's still plenty left. (Homegrown strawberries)

newnanny Sun 18-Jun-17 11:41:50

I am bringing balloons and party poppers. I once did a very kind thing by letting a friend of my sisters borrow my beautiful new wedding bouquet of silk roses and trailing ivy for her to use at her wedding even before I used it myself three weeks later. I have lent out several wedding items since but they were all after I had used them and I felt quite good about myself for lending out my bouquet before i had used it myself especially as my Mum tried to stop me from doing it and it was not to my own friend but my sisters.

craftygran Sun 18-Jun-17 11:32:59

Will be here at some point with White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake

Grannyknot Sun 18-Jun-17 11:30:02

wilma that's funny!

pittcity and others, I feel a bit sheepish now for entering the kindness competition, was just following instructions blush.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 18-Jun-17 11:21:26

My neighbour's cats are ready grin

Chewbacca Sun 18-Jun-17 11:20:11

I'll third that vote Pittcity and NanaandGrampy . Annsixty is a very kind lady indeed.
