callgirl1 Mon 24-Jul-17 17:57:22

Beautiful photo of the sunset MawB. I`m so sorry, I meant to praise your grandson yesterday, but reading back I see that I omitted to. So, well done, young man! How is Paw today?
Soop, what a nice picture, the rose still looks good, so do you, and MacS.
Can I be a show off and brag about my new kitchen, even though it`s still awaiting a paint job? Thank you, I will then!

Charleygirl Mon 24-Jul-17 18:13:01

callgirl that is a very smart kitchen- I wish that my new one looked half as smart as yours. I am pleased to see that you have not forgotten to feed the cat!

soop there is nothing wrong with Rory's memory- a bit like Tara's- she will never go into any open car or lorry now because they all obviously go to the vet. Such a pity, we do it for the best of intentions.

I do hope that Paw is feeling slightly better. Is Hattie coming home today?

MawBroon Mon 24-Jul-17 18:27:04

Paw looked v happy to see me when Impopped in for a surprise visit before driving down to Essex. He is still on oxygen though sad but we must just be patient.
Now I have a message for you from the latest addition to the family.
"Hello Aunty Grannies, Hattie here . I am trying to adjust to living in this strange kennel called a house, don't know about tables, or patio doors with the result that I have bumped my head and my nose when I was trying to say hello to a very fine black greyhound I could see. I have investigated the garden, found a poo which Mummy must have missed when Basil was here so I had a roll in that. Apart from that I have had my tea, snarfed a chew she had foolishly left on the counter and am now settling down for a nap. I think I will like it here, might even stay"

Charleygirl Mon 24-Jul-17 18:36:47

Hello Hattie,
Delighted to see that you are settling in. The first night when you are supposed to be asleep,it is dark outside and mummy is asleep in bed is very difficult. Try not cry, mum will be up early in the morning to let you out in the garden to do your business and then feed you.

I do not know if mum will allow you to sneak into her bedroom- you may need to know where she is at all times because it is a strange house with other doggy smells around and there is no other dog except yourself.

I do hope that you will want to stay, if not you can always come here for a trial run although I have a cat who owns this house, she may not want you remotely close. Her claws are very sharp and I do not want to take you to see the vet because you have war wounds.

Please try and settle down, honestly, there are much worse kennels, you have really fallen on all four feet.

Bellanonna Mon 24-Jul-17 19:04:45

Welcome to The Kitchen, Hattie. You look lovely.

callgirl I envy that black and white kitchen! Very smart.

Jalima1108 Mon 24-Jul-17 19:19:04

Hello Hattie
I see that you are making yourself very much at home! That's the ticket, show them who's boss right from the beginning - don't let them get away with anything because they will try it on.

callgirl envy
It looks very smart.

soop I first read The Borrowers when I was a child, then re-read them with the DC because they're so enjoyable. There was also a series on the tv with Ian Holm, Penelope Wilton and other well-known actors which was lovely. I'm sure I first saw Ian Holm as Puck at the RST, Stratford, many many years ago (I was at school so very many years ago!).

cornergran Mon 24-Jul-17 20:41:29

Welcome, Hattie. Pleased you have joined us, you seem a very laid back person and I am sure you will love your new home. Just remember when you are at home with your Mum who is in charge, it may not be her. grin

Lovely kitchen, callgirl, you must be so pleased. Who needs paint?

Paw sounds to be moving forward maw, have a good night relaxing with Hattie, she does look super.

Busy but good day today, no time for supper yet, so I'm off to eat. Take care everyone.

Crafting Mon 24-Jul-17 20:55:22

Hello Hattie. Nice to meet you, Auntie Crafting here. You have a very important job to do at the moment and that's to take good care of your mummy and bring some sunshine into her life. Look after her while paw is still in hospital and then, when he comes home, give him a big lick to welcome him home. You are a very lucky girl to have found such a nice home, just mind you don't bump into anything else confused ?

Crafting Mon 24-Jul-17 20:56:59

soop what a lovely photo. How proud you must be.

callgirl1 I do like your new kitchen. It looks very smart.smile

Greyduster Mon 24-Jul-17 20:59:30

callgirl that is a lovely kitchen. We chose Metro tiles too, but in dark red and like yours, they look very smart. Someone said to me, don't have tiles at the back of your hob, but over two years down the line they look as good as when they were first put on.
Maw I am glad you have a new dog and that she seems to having no trouble settling in. Welcome to your new family, Hattie! Glad to hear that Paw is comfortable.
Soop the wedding photo is lovely. Happy memories! I could have done with a bit of 'boring blether' today as we have had a rather testing day trying to sort out the final equipment for our prospective new bathroom. The plumber wants to get stuck in a week on Saturday and we have not actually ordered a thing; still knee deep in quotes and indecision!
But we had a soothing walk late afternoon. Crops in the fields locally are now on the cusp of being harvestable, there are loads of not quite ripe blackberries in the hedgerows and the best prospect of hazelnuts I have seen for ages - the bushes are laden with them. Yum! Every time GS comes over he wants to know when we can go picking blackberries (he's been asking since about April!). Well, when he comes back from his holidays two weeks on Thursday, I will probably be able to stop saying "not yet"! You can tell the summer is hastening on, though, when we get a view of the moors and the heather is starting to take on the faintest flush of purple (where the bracken hasn't strangled it, that is!).

PoshGran Mon 24-Jul-17 21:00:47

Greetings all!
I see that black is the new black - hooray - I like black as so many other colours go well with it!
callgirl - love the sleek & shiny black kitchen (mine's black too)
Maw - greyhounds are sooo elegant aren't they? Hattie looks a real black beauty! Hope that Paw continues to improve.
Charley - hope Hattie listens carefully to what you said. A comment you made yesterday made me smile.
soop - perhaps we ought to dust the chairs down, get all the tea-sets out & have a themed party when it's Kitchener's birthdays or it's the first of the month or some other reason, then Hipsy & the rest of us lot can bring more cake!

Right, must go. Don't think I need iron knickers on for tomorrow's Rhymetime after last week's record breaker - 25 littlies is about right, not double that!!
Sleep well one & all wink

cornergran Mon 24-Jul-17 22:02:38

Oh soop, I'm a hopeless case, keep forgetting to say what a super wedding photo and how happy and relaxed everyone looks. A sit in the sun and a blether would be most welcome, oh well, virtual is almost as good smile.

callgirl1 Mon 24-Jul-17 22:42:25

Thanks everyone, I`ve never had a new kitchen before, I keep polishing up the worktops, and my floor has never been washed as much. Daughter 3 is amused because I keep saying my favourite bits are the worktops and floor! Cornergran, I can`t wait till someone comes and paints the walls, they`re going to be lemon, by the way.
So sorry Hattie, I should have welcomed you before I started rabbiting about my kitchen. You`re a beautiful girl, and you`ve found yourself a great place to live. Make sure you give Paw a good welcome when he comes home.

MawBroon Mon 24-Jul-17 23:50:58

I think Hattie would suit your kitchen very well callgirl isn't it lovely when something is clean and new and it is a joy to keep it that way?
Then reality kicks in!!! You must be very happy with it though.
We have had some crying from downstairs so I have left some little lights on and Radio 2 playing quietly in the background.
Hattie is funny, never having been in a house. Went nose to nose with Jeremy Paxman when I put the TV on and then barked at her reflection in the patio doors when it got dark so I have had to draw the curtains!

callgirl1 Tue 25-Jul-17 00:04:34

That`s right MawB, Hattie would tone very well in my kitchen, but I doubt you`d ever let her come here, except maybe on a visit?

MawBroon Tue 25-Jul-17 04:31:09

You might have the pleasure of more floorwashing callgirl ??at 4 this morning. She did howl to wake me but whether that was before or after the puddle I am not sure.
Ah well kitchen floors are washable (just as well)

Marydoll Tue 25-Jul-17 07:22:18

Maw, I hope you got some sleep and that you see a little improvment in Paw today
My BIL whois on dialysis, popped in to see DGD yesterday. I haven't seen him for about ten days, as both our medical appts seem to be taking over. I got such a shock. He is a big tall man and had lost so much weight. I spent a very worried night lying awake thinking of him.

Gagagran Tue 25-Jul-17 07:35:04

Lovely new kitchen callgirl1 and lovely new Hattie Maw. It must be strange for her to be in a house for the first time. She will settle in as she gets to know you and feels more at home. Paw will be keen to get back home too and get to know her which might help speed up his health improvement. Let's hope so anyway.

Lovely wedding photo soop. You do have a very good-looking family. They take after you. wink

We are still in limbo here waiting for this morning's update from my sister. I have no idea how long this can go on but she is resigned to the inevitable and calmer in herself. I suppose it's acceptance that he has no hope of recovery. I am on stand by to go when she wants me there but that's not yet.

I need to mend a tear in DH's favourite shorts and not being a seamstress ("You hold a needle like a poker" per my Mum) I am trying to figure out how to do it. It's a 1 inch L-shaped tear. Any ideas Grans? confused

MawBroon Tue 25-Jul-17 08:04:44

On 25 July 1970 Paw and I were married in the University Chapel , St Andrews, just 3 weeks after graduating.
Much water has flowed under the bridge since then but I give thanks daily for our wonderful family, DDs 1, 2 and 3, their lovely husbands and our wonderful grandchildren, Will, Toby, Pippa and Flynn. But most of all for Paw's courage in the face of a lifetime of health problems and his tenacity when we have faced sad times together ??

MawBroon Tue 25-Jul-17 08:07:35

Marydoll, gagagran, Downsized sending you my thoughts at this trying time. Life doesn't get any easier does it? Do we just develop the ability to cope? I know sometimes I wish I could burst into tears and have Mummy or Daddy "kiss it better" sad

Iam64 Tue 25-Jul-17 08:12:21

Congratulations on so many years together Maw and paw. Hattie has a growing fan club.
Love your new kitchen callgirl. I was lucky enough to have a new kitchen three years ago. I'm still so pleased with it.

Sending positive thoughts to everyone, edspecially those of us managing the things life throws at us. That would be all of us then x

cornergran Tue 25-Jul-17 08:24:47

Congratulations maw and paw. Lovely wedding photo. So happy.

Hattie did well to manage just one puddle, it's so different, for her isn't it? She's a bright girl, will understand soon. Wonder where she will see her reflection today?

Sending warm and coping thoughts to everyone facing life's difficulties of whatever kind and wishing you something that brings peace for just a while today.

Bellanonna Tue 25-Jul-17 08:53:01

Congratulations maw and paw.

kittylester Tue 25-Jul-17 09:19:39

Lovely photo Maw and congratulations from me too. I hope you get a care package sorted soon so Paw can come and meet Hattie. flowers

Sending love to people who are watching and waiting - it's so hard, isn't it.

Callgirl, great kitchen. I had my 'new' kitchen 12 years ago and it's starting to look it's age. The logical thing to do would be to change the doors and work surfaces - but the upheaval would be horrendous, so I think we'll manage.

I'm in dire need of a hug as I just made Bertie cry. He was in our bed watching CBeebies when he decided to go down to see pa and have some Breakfast. Being a boy (!!!) he decided the best way was to bounce on the end of the bed and over the (quite high) bed rail and on to the floor which he did very successfully. However, I yelled 'no bertie' just as he took off because all I could see was his feet catching, Bertie going head first into DH'S chest of drawers and needing an ambulance.shock

It's taken quite a while, a phone call to mummy, many cuddles and lots of brew for both of us to recover. Oh dear!

cornergran Tue 25-Jul-17 10:04:24

oh kitty as many hugs as you need. Its fear that gets us every time. I'm sure his Mummy would have done the same. Dont worry, Bertie will forgive you and may, notice I say may, not do it next time. smile
