Well, found a newly opened cafe, delicious cake and excellent tea consumed on very comfortable chairs. It could be my new second home. Definitely no walk, its raining any sort of animal you can think of. Still parcel collected, cake consumed, irritating issue with the car sorted while we waited and a dine in for £10 purchased from you know where. All in all a good afternoon.

I've an early start and a late finish tomorrow soop so wishing you a safe journey and a very enjoyable get together. Macs is doing the right thing, you'd both worry terribly if you both left your boy.

Third time lucky for the flu jab charley. Had ours on Saturday. No less than five people jabbing away in the surgery with appointments at two minute intervals. Can't be many people left to be done.

I have just had a wasted journey. I went to the local pharmacy on Monday for my flu jab, it is walk in to discover that the person was on holiday. I nipped in again today to discover she had gone home. I then decided to make an appointment so unless she is sick it will be 2pm tomorrow. I could easily self administer but I doubt if I would be allowed.

Tomorrow morning, I'm visiting the hairdresser for my pre-gathering hair-fix. MacSporran will have a few stray hairs trimmed, and his bald head polished.

Rory continues to enjoy his food. A little and often suits him best. He takes an age to walk as far as his bowl. He stumbles constantly. We both know that his days are numbered. MacS still wishes to remain at home with him. My youngest son and grandson, Torben, will be sharing the holiday cottage with me.

I shall call in tomorrow afternoon to say a brief, fond farewell. You all know how to open our next kitchen in the event of the present one having to close.

Well off we went for a walk today, in a different direction to earlier in the week, in the warm Cretan sunshine. Turned out it was a much less pleasant walk, as we approached the town we went through what seemed to be a building site where yet another beach development was being completed. We then thought we'd take a detour and ended up in a sort of water park full of pools of various sizes and every sort of slide a water baby could wish for. Of course everyone was dressed accordingly in beach wear, lots of young, lithe and bronzed bodies on show great people watching opportunity And there we were dressed in substantial shorts, functional t shirts, walking sandals with of course a small backpack and by this time looking rather sweaty into the bargain. We must have looked so out of place, I certainly felt it, the old boy was oblivious of course! Well having got in there could we find a way out again, could we heck. After seeing some water slides more than once we eventually found ourselves in a very busy bustling town. Note to self
why didn't I read the guidebook more thoroughly! We decided at that point to abandon the pretence of fitness and take the bus back, getting off a a few stops early to enjoy a drink at the bar near where we spotted the kingfisher the other day. So there we were relaxing, a cooling Mythos in hand, when I spotted him. Off I shot along the foreshore with my camera, in my hasty enthusiasm climbing down a bit further than I'd realised. It was worth it as the beautiful creature lingered on the rocks as he darted along, fishing as he went. Then of course I had to get back up to the path, hip replacement, dodgy knees and all, elegant it certainly wasn't! Back on the path I met my old boy along the way, I'd been out of sight for so long he was worried I'd tripped over it has been known and came to find me, he's a good chap. The waiter in the bar said the kingfisher comes every summer, presumably they migrate somewhere?

Charley you and Grampy save some for me - I'm not on antibiotics, and I love a good stew! Agree about the dumplings though, N&G. Perhaps we can have a picture of some dumplings?
I have just done a couple of hours in the garden and feel very virtuous. It cheered me up because the day got off to a poor start. DH's eye problem flared up again yesterday with a vengeance and he was in pain overnight and this morning, so I phoned the surgery. Yes you guessed it - nothing until Friday but they did get the doc to ring him. Apparently there is nothing the practice can do for him; he has to go back to the eye clinic at the hospital. He was only there a month ago and has had another flare up since then. She also said that the drops they had given him were steroidal and that they are supposed to monitor him - something else we didn't know. I kind of feel he is being shoved from pillar to post somewhat. So back we go tommorrow (it's a walk in clinic) and I will want to know if, as they have said, his condition could be symptomatic of an underlying condition, should someone be trying to find out if he has one! Our doctor is very good and I know that if there was anything she could do for him, she would do it, but there is not much joined up thinking going on in my opinion. Add to that (yes, I'm having a right old moan!) the fact that the plumber asked me at the weekend to order another box of tiles for the bathroom as he wasn't sure whether we had enough, so I phoned the tile shop and yes, they had them in stock. We went down yesterday and the box of tiles was produced. DH put them in the car and I said "They're not the right tiles". The salesman said they were. I took one out of the box. It wasn't. "Well sometimes the marbling on some of them is very light" he said. I took another one out. Then he said "they're the wrong tiles". And then the cheeky b*****r said "Well spotted, madam!" I could have hit him. Anyway, it turns out our tiles are not in stock and have to be ordered, which means they won't be here for the weekend. So if J hasn't got enough tiles we grind to a halt - again. So that's my moan over. You can all come back in now - I'll put the kettle on (or open the gin!) .

I have just scoffed a smoked salmon toasted sandwich so that should keep the wolf from the door until I reach NG's* for a lovely evening meal. I will bring a bottle of dry white but as you are on antibiotics it will be Grampy and I who partake of it.

I'm totally perplexed. What was said that caused a member of the Gransnet watchtower to pop in and raid the biscuit barrel give a gentle wee lecture? I've no idea why this was deemed necessary. As far as I'm aware, we have all been getting along just fine.

Having just consumed a jacket potato with loads of cheese and a very nice salad I couldn't face salmon today. If anyone offers tomorrow that will be different.

Can I also say I haven't a clue about misdemeanours in here, hope someone can enlighten me, there are feet waiting to be put firmly in whatever it is.

Off out now to collect a parcel, no sunshine so and a chilly wind, so no walk on the beach today. May have to consider a cuppa and a cake instead as a consolation prize.

Lovely tasty salmon recipe from GN: spread salmon fillet with horseradish sauce, wrap in foil, bake 20 mins - yum! and delicious cold.

ann yum, I have just had apple, grapes and a piece of cheese with a coffee and not surprisingly I am starving. I am not sure if it pays to attempt to be good.

My very favourite thing with cold poached salmon is homemade potato salad with just a small amount of green stuff, although that isn't necessary.
