Thank you for your reply I live near Leeds, do not drive but live near good transport network.Anyone out there in need of company.

Welcome Party4. You did not give a clue which part of the country you live because some areas are easier for meetups than others.

That is what I am doing today- meeting up with two others for coffee, never having met them before.

Hi all new to site and would love advice on meeting/making friends. Feeling rather lonely after moving, retiring and spending life involved with family and elderly relatives. Now have free time but no one to spend it with. Husband has mental health issues and will not join or become involved in activities. Love him to bits but need something to fill my life.

Thank you Charleygirl5. The name is linked to my gin habit - I occasionally get woozie. But tonight I am just about to have a hot chocolate

Charleygirl5 Thu 06-Jun-19 21:33:57

Welcome suziewoozie- love the name.

Another one recommended to Gransnet by a friend. Needing some moral support at the moment because my daughter and grandchildren have just moved 200 miles away.

Welcome Glammy57 pleased to hear you have decided to join us!

Glammy57 Thu 06-Jun-19 15:44:59

Hello, I’ve been a “lurker” for a long time but decided to jump in, recently. I’m married, one daughter, one granddaughter, one cat. I currently live in Wales but have moved home many times, including abroad!

Welcome Carol1950 you have been busy since you retired! If you do not want your head bitten off stay clear of the politics posts!!

If you want to meet up with others for coffee, if eg you live in London, choose an area preferably with decent transport links and parking and maybe choose a somewhere to have the coffee. I have met some lovely people that method.

Carol1950 Sat 01-Jun-19 19:04:58

Hi everyone. I was recommended to Gransnet by a friend and thought it sounded like a bit of fun. My granddaughter started school last year so I don't look after her on Tuesday like I did for the first 4 years of her life. I now have even more free time than I did then. It's great being retired, I can do what I like. I'm a volunteer and do Wriggly Readers at the local library; I'm secretary of a local writers' group; I host a Scrabble session once a fortnight to raise money for World Wide Cancer Research.....and now I've joined Gransnet! I look forward to participating in your discussions.

Nannyrus I have met two other lots of GNs for coffee in the last couple of weeks with more on the horizon.

Welcome. If you are a sensitive soul stay clear of the political threads but if you want a gentle introduction try soop's kitchen.

Welcome Samaromo.

Hi everyone. I found Gransnet purely by chance when I googled a Gran connected question and was linked to your forum. As I am expecting my first grandchild in a few weeks I thought that I would sign up and give Gransnet a try.

Opalsusanna1 Wed 29-May-19 14:24:31

Hi Everyone, I'm a little late to be introducing myself as new as I posted some things last week and got a lovely response. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts. I'm semi retired and work as a mentor for writers who want to get published as well as writing myself. I'm also a genealogist and have a blog about my family. I have 3 grandchildren - all girls, with another one due in November. I'm still married after 40 years - too lazy to get a divorce - no I love him really, but thank you for all the opinions, comments and advice and I look forward to corresponding with more of you.

Hi how do I open a separate thread? I’m a bit hopeless with tech I’m afraid. Thanks

Charleygirl5 Mon 27-May-19 11:55:07

Welcome- I suggest you open a separate thread because this post is really only to welcome people so I doubt if you will get any replies.

Izzipop Mon 27-May-19 11:21:50

Hi my problem is my daughter and granddaughter live 13,000 miles away and I am struggling because I miss Xmas s , birthdays etc. I can’t afford to go over very often And neither can she. We do FT but it’s not the same as being there. I am beginning to feel we are drawing apart. Any suggestions please ?

Drell Mon 27-May-19 06:58:35

Hello nannyfaraway. Yes, I guess I am, I had my first at 23, and my two eldest started having children before entering their 30s. Congrats on your granddaughter. Good to hear you are enjoying GN.

Nannyfaraway Sun 26-May-19 20:27:36

Welcome Drell you're quite young to have that many Grandchildren. I'm 62 and only have one 7 month old Grandaughter. I actually only joined Gransnet a few weeks ago and have found it good so far

Charleygirl5 Sun 26-May-19 10:45:40

Welcome and join the club Drell. You are one of the younger members.

Drell Sun 26-May-19 10:38:55

Welcome Sickofweddingcake you will end up if you are not careful with an abbreviation of sick!

Why do you not let yourself in gently to soop's kitchen. You will never have your head bitten off

Sickofweddingcake Mon 20-May-19 17:52:16

Hi all!
I,too, am a lurker.?
I tried,shyly,once to put a post on...got it all wrong...and gave up..premature I know,but I am having another go...so: a big 'Hi!' from me. xx

Charleygirl5 Mon 20-May-19 13:08:53

Tonto I am afraid this is the wrong thread to expect an answer on that subject. Maybe start your own thread? Welcome by the way.

Welcome also Abuelana. I have a nephew living in Spain and my ex father in law lived there for 40 years + before his demise.

There should be somebody on GN living in Spain but where I do not know. Maybe start another thread and ask.
A good idea having two residences rather than moving there permanently.
