Thankyou for the welcome Charleygirl5. I recently became a gran for the second (and very possibly last!) time. My first GS is 13 and the latest, another GS is now 9 weeks. It’s lovely to have a baby in the family again. I am quite besotted. So a chunk of my time is spent goo-ing over him. Look at me, using abbreviations! Seem to jump back and forward to the “acronyms” help. There are one or two that aren’t in there though ?. I am reading more than writing at present. I hope to change but am very backward at coming forward.

If so, Gransooz stay away from the political threads and get to know soop's kitchen where everybody is helpful and you will not get your head bitten off.

It is fairly busy so maybe stay in the wings and slowly learn about various folk and chip in as and when. With my memory I cannot remember what half the folk are doing.

It must be lovely gooing over a new baby!

Hi, I’ve just joined but am thrown by all the abbreviations used in posts, for example, DH or AC. How am I supposed to know what they mean? Is there a list somewhere? Thanks

Charleygirl5 Fri 05-Apr-19 14:34:05

Welcome- DH is dear husband- AC is adult children. Most are easy once you get into the swing of things but if you scroll down you will see a list of abbreviations. One or two still fox me especially if made up by the person writing the post!

Charleygirl5 Fri 05-Apr-19 14:41:29

Oops they are not so GD is granddaughter, SiL is son in law-MiL is mother in law. OH is other half

H on its own is husband- not all are dear!!!

Is that helpful?

Hello everyone! I found Gransnet while looking for abscess information (yes, really!)

I’m into Loom knitting, doll collecting, and tarot (what a combination!)

My husband is due to retire in early July, I’ve got a while to wait for mine!

It’s great to be here, the threads look interesting and the people friendlysmile

Marydoll Tue 09-Apr-19 07:10:44

Welcome, CherylMoon, I hope you enjoy being on GN, take your time getting to know us. Posting on the Good Morning thread and Soop's Kitchen is a very safe option, if you are initially wary of posting. They are friendly supportive posts.

CherylMoon Tue 09-Apr-19 09:41:01

Thanks for the welcome and advice Marydoll! I’ll take a look at both smile

Hi all. I found Gransnet while looking around on the internet. I took early retired back in 2014 from my job at our local hospital due to stress. I have 3 children and 4 grand kids. Married for 12 years, second time around. I love to knit and do watercolour painting, both of which I find rewarding and relaxing.

I have posted a couple of items and the site comes across as being really friendly and I am looking forward to meeting lots of lovely people in the future.

Take care and have a lovely day.

Welcome, whywhywhy I also suggest what Marydoll suggested CherryMoon looks at to ease your way in gently.

Hello everyone
I've been lurking for a while now and trying to pluck up the courage to join in - so here l go!!
I joined after finding Gransnet on an internet search, I've been worrying about my son, his ex and my grandchild. I wanted to see if other grans were in the same boat, sadly it seems a lot are.
I've been married for 27 years, our son is 30 and grandchild is 4. I don't work because of disability.
Sorry if I've waffled a bit, I'm not a regular user of forums x

Charleygirl5 Thu 11-Apr-19 18:21:30

Welcome RedRachel

CherylMoon Fri 12-Apr-19 16:06:23

Nice to meet you!

Cheryl

Hi Everyone I'm new too looking forward to reading the posts they look really interesting.

Charleygirl5 Sat 13-Apr-19 09:23:09

Welcome, tollgate- join the others who have recently come on board. My only advice is if you are of a sensitive nature stay well clear of political posts.

Sara65 Sat 13-Apr-19 14:49:43

I’ve been watching for a while, and have now taken the plunge! Great to see such a huge variety of subjects covered, definitely don’t agree with everything I’ve read! But always interesting!

RedRachel Sat 13-Apr-19 18:55:42

Hi Cherylmoon, thanks for the kind words, much appreciated

Charleygirl5 Sat 13-Apr-19 19:14:46

Welcome Sarah65

Celeste21 Thu 18-Apr-19 15:12:01

Hello all
I joined about two minutes ago. Found gransnet after a friend mentioned it, but I don’t know if this will be my one and only post as many views expressed here are very much at odds with mine, and I’m not a confrontational person generally. But I do enjoy reading other opinions so at least I’m ready if I do find the courage to join in!

Maggiemaybe Thu 18-Apr-19 15:34:27

Hi, Celeste and welcome to Gransnet. smile It's best just to look round a little at first before diving in. I remember being told off on my first post and very nearly calling it a day - the discussion was about royal baby names, would you believe, so hardly controversial!! Most GNers are friendly and few bite. Marydoll's recommendations - Soop's Kitchen and the Good Morning threads - are very good (and safe!) ones for newcomers.

Celeste21 Thu 18-Apr-19 15:48:53

Maggiemaybe
Thank you . Being told off on my first post would certainly make me think twice about continuing! I shall take your very welcome advice

Charleygirl5 Thu 18-Apr-19 15:50:01

Welcome Celeste I agree with every word Maggiemaybe has said. I also got my head bitten off many years ago when I had the temerity to post and did not have facts and figures to hand. I was merely making an observation and it was almost my last but I mainly stay with soop's kitchen, people there are very pleasant.
