Hand written letters.
A breakfast cereal called Bran Buds.

Nannynoodles Sun 13-Oct-24 16:58:53

Terry’s of York 1767 chocolates - all dark and absolutely delicious!
Comedy shows that are actually funny.
High Streets with independent shops, not all all nail bars, cafes and charity shops.

Bank branches on High Streets for sure.
Regular local cheap bus services.
Ticket offices at local railway stations.
Accessible GP's surgeries.
Shops where you can try on clothes and shoes.
Department stores where you can wander round looking at stuff you can't afford to keep out of the rain.
I could go on...

Hard toffee that came in a tin tray with a little silver hammer to smash it, and Eat Me dates which came in a long oval balsa wood box (both at Christmas)

mae13 Sun 13-Oct-24 16:07:21

Oh, and accessible bank branches on every High Street.

The original BBC Radio 4 agenda. Since it was re-organized some time back it's been hopeless. Example: Friday Night Is Music Night shunted off to Radio 3?

A fully functioning NHS with GPS who do home visits and same day appointments and trains and utilities that are nationalised.

Hear, hear! And a fully funded National Care Service free at the point of delivery.

Great though that would be Grantanow it doesn’t qualify for this thread because care has never been free at point of use, it was charged for even after the NHS was first formed.

I’d like to see the demise of cheap disposable furniture, and a return to solid wood furniture that would be used and cherished for lifetimes.

I really miss the old sitcoms that used to make millions of people laugh. There are hardly any now and none of them are funny.

Airing cupboards and eye-level grills.

I still have an airing cupboard.. as well as holding all the linens and towels it's a boon when I wash trainers, they go onto the shelf in the airing cupboard to dry out nicely..

Yes I remember Barmouth biscuits and I really miss dark bounty bars too. I wish we could return to the days before we ever even joined the Eu, now they were the best :-)

Yes. BBC used to do quality drama, once upon a time, especially a series of stand-alone dramas under the banner "Play For Today".

Long since replaced by 'Reality' tv. Nasty and cheap IMHO.

Play for Today was such a good idea, remember watching this, and there was a series of spooky dramas where ghostly things happened, a bit corny by todays standards probably but I liked watching them, I think they were also on at the weekend.

Topic bars. I absolutely loved them!

Milk delivered to the doorstep in a glass bottle. I don't think it tastes the same now

Good high streets full of independent shops, no retail parks. Shops closed every Sunday.
Families living close to each other.
A more relaxing and peaceful Christmas.
Regular bus services.
Manufacturing.

People walking around instead of getting into a car. During Covid it happened a little here and we got to know quite a few near neighbours we had never seen before. We were locked down for years here( stupid Labor government ) so we all got a bit desperate and would talk to absolutely everyone .

Debenhams, Hammels, Richard shops and somewhere to shop in person. Am I the only one just hating internet shopping

Dandelion & Burdock leomonade.
Sunday closure- wholeheartedly agree.
And yes , Diana Louise, somewhere to shop in person. Oxford St in the 1970s. Bourne and Hollingsworth - their changing rooms were bigger than the little rooms I lived in at the time. !!
The country being run by the Government and not by big business( that's how it feels sometimes).

Foxes glacier dark..
I loved them up until a couple of years ago, when they seemed to disappear.
