Most offputting Advert on TV?

I don't know what the product is because, before this ad is done, I have changed the channel, so I shall give you some clues.

Men sniffing each others' groins. References to slang names for men's "bits and bobs". Said bits and bobs getting a spray.

Anybody actually not cringe when this Ad comes on? Anybody have an even more offputting Ad they would like to mention?

It's funny really - not funny ha ha but funny peculiar. We don't generally worry about watching toothpaste and teeth ads for example but we do about our bottoms which are also part of us.

Anything that is about weeing in your pants, pooing (especially diarrhoea), gushing menstruation, genitals (sniffing of) etc.

I also find the numerous ones about people enjoying artificial smells annoying.

I agree!

I also dislike this adverts and utterly cringe at some of them.

Every advert now appears to be advertising how not to be a smelly person, (sweat is natural and needed), or to have artificially smelling houses and laundry or bodily functions!

It literally sets my teeth on edge watching teeth being brushed. The equivalent of nails down a blackboard!🙀

At least with the modern sanitary towel Ads it doesn't give the impression that we ladies menstruate blue blood. Surely only the Royals do that? smile

My mother would perhaps have been shocked by such ads appearing at all, but I do think it is healthier than "Ladies Necessaries" being a hidden, under-the-counter, product only available in the chemist, by request. Orders were to hang back until no man was present in the shop and ask for a female assistant.

Granmarderby10 Fri 27-Jun-25 11:54:43

How ludicrous it all was Aely.

Mollygo Fri 27-Jun-25 12:01:49

I dislike lots of those mentioned, but they’re failing in one aspect for their sales, though a bonus for other makes.
I can never remember the name of the product, not even the bulky pee pants, so if I needed them I’d buy whatever was cheapest.

I can’t stand the adverts for extra and expensive products to make your laundry smell nice. Completely unnecessary

Nandalot Fri 27-Jun-25 12:14:26

It’s the gambling ones that get us annoyed in our house.

I am not sure these ads are effective in product placement. There are so many that I have sat through loads of times but I couldn't tell what they are for.

Perhaps they influence people subliminally and one day I will find myself irresistibly drawn to buying a chemical room freshener without realising why.

knspol Fri 27-Jun-25 13:33:36

Could not believe my eyes when I first saw the advert for all over body spray, how can we have stooped so low that we show pictures of people spraying their genitals, or sniffing each other. I wonder what effect it will have on young teens who may think this is the norm, is it even healthy?

Bea65 Fri 27-Jun-25 13:42:47

All over body spray- ugh.. but have looked for it in shops- haven’t found it😩

Witzend Fri 27-Jun-25 13:44:47

To me that ‘smelly bits’ ad is much the same as all those ‘FRESH!!’ ads for laundry scent boosters.

The manufacturers dream up something we don’t need, and then it’s down to their advertising agencies to convince us that we do.

Granmarderby10 Fri 27-Jun-25 13:47:52

These latest whole body deodorants are not “healthy” or necessary but will almost certainly be aimed at adolescents and even younger. It plays on the subliminal notions of acceptability picked up from what parents, family and the all important peer group say and do.

Most of these body sprays are used as a proxy for a good wash and clean clothes.
We all know that people sweat especially more so during puberty.

grannybuy Fri 27-Jun-25 13:49:58

Yes, I’ve decided not to buy body sprays, or anything else that these particular companies are trying to sell. Same for the laundry and dish washing products, where they regularly keep apparently producing something greater.

I think it’s the advert for LYNX - it’s disgusting !!😡

Granmarderby10 Fri 27-Jun-25 13:54:37

Bea65 I’ve seen them in Boots there are a couple of brands roll on and spray. Not that cheap compared to usual deodorant either.
I’d rather have a really gorgeous perfume/cologne by saving up personally but that’s young people for you.

sazz1 Fri 27-Jun-25 13:55:48

The one with the pee pants it's pretty disgusting. A more serious advert for incontinence underwear or pads would be much better.
And the one with kids voices on adults I think it's Haribo sweets. That's just stupid

Casdon Fri 27-Jun-25 13:57:44

I don’t ever watch adverts. When I was working I read how much time we waste on advert breaks, and started to get up every time the ads came on and do a small cleaning task - it was amazing how much I got done. Old habits die hard, and I’m still doing it, it gets me up, and I’m so used to it that I don’t even think about it now.

I might well pinch that idea!

grannybuy I know it’s not eco-minded …but where laundry is concerned low temp washes if not dried promptly absolutely stink…it is bacteria.
And few things are more intoxicatingly gorgeous than the aroma of line dried clothing and bedding imo.

My thoughts when all the pad pants and graphic details came on tv “no wonder very young boys are claiming they are gay or young girls deciding the would rather be boys and Men deciding they don’t like women so much anymore” I know I will be slammed by others coping with real serious issues on gender but those adds are disgusting and should be banned. PS Where are equivalent adds for men’s products?

Granmarderby10 Fri 27-Jun-25 14:08:04

I’m so used to no commercials on most tv that I watch that I got really really fed up and switched over from Chanel 4s repetitive ones the other night on catch up.

Seriously question: what would the best Video Recorder/player to buy? Anyone…
I know they just want me to pay more for no ads.

zipperdedoda Fri 27-Jun-25 14:09:22

My mum got up every ad break, mostly to make cups of tea or get biscuits! she died at 87 and had no problems with knees, hips etc. I wish I was that energetic! When the ads come on I just channel hop!

Leavesden Fri 27-Jun-25 14:10:06

I agree with all of these comments, hate the gross ads wouldn’t make me buy the products often put them on mute, certainly don’t need to see people sitting on the toilet, or sniffing there armpits or worse and I know what period blood looks like you don’t have to show me, hate them all.
