I don't think I've ever had a haircut which has only taken 15 minutes. It explains why they're cheaper than mine.

My hairdresser is a fast worker and doesn’t chat! Plus my style is simpler than a stacked bob you show ( the wig).😄

I think all hair salons upped their prices significantly in the last two years the reason could be the pandemic linked to rises in NI for employers and the rise in wages for employees.

Growstuff she has a shop/ saloon called it what you will just off the high street that seems to do very well she’s a good cutter and because I have a short choppy style a wash trim and blow dry is all I need every five weeks
I don’t live in an expensive city just a town my friend goes to a a high Street hairdressers and pays double

I guess the increased rates, wages and power costs over several years suddenly reached a level where the price had to be significantly increased to restore the viability of the business. I prefer it if they are raised gradually. Not such a shock to the psyche!

Not just hairdressers, the cost of many things has doubled.
In an ordinary pub last week starters were £17, you can imagine what the main courses cost.

I was surprised toread about hairdressers doing a dry cut; I haven't seen this service advertised for a long time as they all seem to only cut hair if the hair is wet, so you have to book in for a shampoo and blow dry as well as the basic trim/cut.

I have hair to my waist and my problem was always to find a hairdresser who taren't scissor-happy wwith a client over the age of 40 with longer hair. I vividly recall having moved house 11 years ago changing to a different hairdresser, asking bor just half an inch off the ends of my hip length hair and ending up with hair to bra-strap length when it clearly did NOT need that much off the ends. It's taken me nearly ten years to grow my hair back tothe length it was previously.

The salon I now go to is not only within easy walking distnace of where I live but the stylists aren't scissor-happy when predented with a client of any age with long hair (I'm 70, by the way). I pay £38 for a trim and blow dry and I'm happy with the price and the service I receive.

I only wanted a "dry" cut because I can be sensitive to some shampoos and I avoid drying my hair using heat, but a shampoo and cut would have cost the same.

It got copious sprays from a water bottle as it is quite fine, but I had a cap to wear to keep my dampish head warm on the way home.

A couple of you have said you cut your own hair. But how do you do the back?

Yes, how on earth can one do the back?
I have been known to try & so has DH but it normally looks like a badger's bottom! 😊

Yes, we could actually be setting a trend! Maybe, MrILovedogs22 could become a trendy influencer & one never knows........
... Victoria Beckham et al might beg him for tips, in order to increase the volume of their Badger's bottom boufont.
Alas, there would be drawbacks! Going out in the evening would be a no-no, due to lusty, rowdy, horny, Mr badger's loitering behind bins, in order to see the trending, irresistible new coiffure on some of the trendiest badgeresse's. Oh, the mind boggles.🤔

I have cut my own hair, out of desparation, in the past.
How did I do the back? Very badly...

No. I guess I'm just lucky. Everybody deserves one good feature . Layers and a couple of squirts of volumiser help.

I'm still surprised she makes any profit at that rate.

There are plenty of youtube videos that tell you how to cut your own hair. I do this and it saves a fortune!

Isn’t that a wig growstuff? Does anyone have that much real hair?

My DGD (thicker than that!) and mine is still thick but not as much as it was.

However with a slight wayward curl, mine never looks smooth.

I take a photo to the hairdresser but end up with nothing like the style in the photo.

I don't think my actual cut takes much longer than 15 minutes.

By the time you arrive, someone takes your coat, you sit and wait, then explain what you want, then get shampooed, conditioned, sat and asked if you want a cuppa, the hairdresser might then get round to the actual cut.
Chatting? Add on ten minutes!
Then a blowdry, spray, pay, someone fetches coat, you could be there for five times as long as the actual cut.

The last time I paid for a haircut was back in the '90s and it cost £3.50 for a dry cut at the barbers. Now, there's not enough hair left to warrant paying for it. I use clippers and do it myself.

Last year in town (North West England) a barbers had a price list up - haircut £25, haircut and beard trim £45. Yikes!
