Oldest household appliance in your home?

My oil-fired boiler was put in by the previous owner of the house in 1986.

I bought my Zanussi fridge-freezer in 1991.

My Hayter petrol lawnmower was bought second-hand but it was made in 1993.

We've got quite a few old appliances as OH likes the challenge of keeping them going. He's just repaired a dualit kettle that's at least 15 years old..sigh...I was ready to buy a new one!

My son has my Dancette record player which I bought in 1962 still in working order. I still use the slow cooker we used to take on self catering holidays with us in the late 1970s . The controls are held on with string and some brown tape but it is still my favourite for doing a pot roast. The controls are stuck on " auto " which is fine for me .

My trusty old Kenwood Chef, a wedding present in 1974. We did just once have to send it off for a repair and service, but it’s done extremely well.

It will soon be very busy making cheese straw dough and the pastry for dozens of mince pies, and a couple of hours ago made an apple crumble topping.

Witzend. Can you tell me who serviced your Kenwood. Love mine but does need a few bits and pieces sorted.

It was a firm in Fareham, Hants, can’t recall the name. But I’ve just googled and found Kenmix Engineering in Gosport, Hants, who look promising.
It was some years ago that ours was fixed. IIRC we paid about £75 for repair/service and return carriage, but had to pack it up and send it to them. It’ll be quite a bit more now, I expect!

And it was 2nd hand then!

My Moulinex hand-held mixer. It also has dough blades. 60 years old. Still works.
More recent Kenwood mixer would still work but the lip on the lid broke and now it won’t slot into the mechanism, so won’t work. The mechanism itself is not broken. I miss it most for the cheese grater blade. That model isn’t made any more so I can’t get a replacement lid, it seems.

I still use a hand held electric whisk that was once part of my Kenwood Chefette. It was a wedding present from my grandma so it's 50 years old.

I still have the rolling pin that was presented tied with a white ribbon on my wedding day.

My stick blender, a part of it broke yesterday so it will now need replacing. It must be about 40+ years old.

I do also have a few small household things from when I married in 1974.

A glass citrus juicer that was my granny's, I am 72 and remember it from when I was a child and granny would use it to make lemon drinks when I had a sore throat.. My mother had it when granny died and then it came to me

I'm not sure how old it was.

No chance said the repairer, get a new one! (This was 10 years ago but still good going)
The ad did say Ariston go on and on.

When my Hoover mixer needed a new part, I was told they were discontinued but the electric shop where we'd bought it years before gave us all the spare parts he had!
It kept going for many years but unfortunately some rubber parts perished beyond repair.

I’m about to make Christmas biscuits, using a rather battered wooden rolling pin which once belonged to a family friend. I have her engagement ring too, it’s dated 1922, so goodness knows how old that rolling pin is!

Have you searched online? There’s a firm that specialises in older Kenwood models - you may be lucky!

Isn't that amazing! You're possibly using a rolling pin over 100 years old.
It would be interesting to know what kind of wood it's made from.

My kenwood mixer an engagement gift in 1978. Very noisy but still going strong.

I bought a 2nd hand Kenwood mixer from a charity shop but alas it blew up, smoke and burning smells the first time I tried it. A pity because I always wanted one but couldn't justify buying a new one.
I still use a Phillips electric beater which was my mum's. She died in 2008 and it certainly wasn't new. She'd had it for years.
