has anyone had good experience of prolapse repair? The net is full of horror stories. Surely they can't all go wrong?

Also anyone had good results from using a pessary?

NannaJeanie...as you rightly say - 2 lost summers. It takes an age to recover from down-below surgery. I remember sobbing with frustration as I had my umpteenth shower of the day - [thanks to my inners going into manic over-drive].

glamma bless you. smile

By the end of this year, I should know for certain whether a repair is appropriate, or whether I've to soldier on, and cope as best I can.

Good luck next week glamma, let us know how you get on

Anyone out there still visiting this site? Am waiting to hear from hospital about when to go in for op for bladder prolapse, one minute I can't wait to go in and the next I am scared, but I know that I can't live with this, any advice please.

Hi Nancupcake1. I had prolapse surgery five years ago now and it went really well. I was in hospital for four days and recovered well at home. I've not had any problems since. I do remember the tiredness, though, which rather took me by surprise. Just take things steady. Good luck, I hope it all goes well for you too.

Thanks for advice Genevieve, had repair done three days ago and am back home taking these easy, hope mine works as well as yours.

Nanacupcake1 I'm sending you my very best wishes for a speedy recovery. I've also had rectal prolapse surgery and, although not every symptom has disappeared, I'm glad that I went ahead. I cannot remember when it was...but thatbags was kind enough to visit me in hospital bearing a flask of tea and other delicious goodies. flowers

One week after bladder prolapse operation, and I'm in a lot of pain inside feels like barbed wire, can't get to see a doctor until Friday, think I'm going to try sitting in a bath of warm water can't think what else to do apart from painkillers, I am rattling with them all. Has this happened to anyone out there?

glammanana Tue 28-Jan-14 13:51:10

Nancupcake do you have any pure Cranberry juice at home if not ask somebody to get some from shops or healthstore for you,and even though it means more visits to the loo have loads of water,it sounds as though you have an infection in the bladder which happen's when you have had this type of surgery I have had it a few times except when I did self cathitorisation (sp)The problem is that a small amount of urine stays in the bladder and we think we have "finished" but in reality a small amount is still present and the build up of urine gets infected hense the pain,a really good way of emptying the bladder as much as possible is to gently rock back & forth in a forward motion and anything left will become apparent just don't rock yourself off the loo grin I would think very poorly of Doctor who would not see you until Friday knowing this problem could have happened, have you thought of ringing your urology nurse and asking her to get you a prescription asap,my nurse would certainly do it for me if asked.Hope you feel better soon I know what discomfort you are going through.

JessM Tue 28-Jan-14 14:11:15

I think you should either ring your GP and say you think you might have a post operative infection and need an urgent consultation or ring the ward where you were treated who will be able to advise possibly better than the GP. Don't leave it until Friday!
(or a specialist nurse as previous poster suggests, if you have one)

Thank you both for the advice, rang my G.P and he has advised 2antibiotics to take, my husband has just gone to collect them, can't wait to start them, doc says they should kick in within two days. Was feeling fine till then, will post back soon with outcome, thanks again.

JessM Tue 28-Jan-14 17:36:44

Good. Sometimes not taking no for an answer is a good plan - but hard to do when you are feeling under the weather.
In the meantime look after yourself (or even better get your DH to do the looking after) and keep drinking lots of fluid.

Nancupcake1 Thu 30-Jan-14 20:39:05

Well the antibiotics have really helped not!! Have had to stop taking them as they have really upset my stomach, but lost a clot last night with a lot of blood and feel better. Sorry if this is t.m.i. Just need the nausea to stop, please.

JessM Thu 30-Jan-14 21:17:41

nanacupcake suggest you ring the ward where you were treated and describe your problems, and do so tonight.

soop Fri 31-Jan-14 12:24:37

Nanacupcake I agree with JessM...get back to the ward sister and describe your symptoms. Do not delay.

Nancupcake1 Fri 31-Jan-14 18:57:50

Spoke to my own doctor and got new antibiotics, feel a bit better tonight, thanks for all your thoughts and advice, will post back on how I get on,still getting very tired which I've heard happens.

JessM Sat 01-Feb-14 09:44:01

Glad you are feeling better - but it would be nice if a doctor actually looked at you - now there's a revolutionary idea.

glammanana Sat 01-Feb-14 10:33:18

Nancupcake I would certainly get back to the ward and be checked out asap as any blood loss should be investigated something could be just not right inside I had a large loss after one of my surgeries and had to go back in for a bit of extra drainage, don't hesitate there will be someone on the ward who can help advise you.

Elegran Sat 01-Feb-14 10:55:26

I would add my voice to those who say to go back to the ward. A phone call will take minutes and could make all the difference. They will have seen your problem many times before and know how best to deal with it.

Your GPs antibiotics may do the trick, but it will take a few days to get any infection under control. Meanwhile it could be some other problem internally which can be seen and fixed if they Xray or ultra-sound it.

If the antibiotics don't sort ot out, you will be back to the ward anyway. You would not be making their work any easier by delaying.

Why waste time on guesswork when you have those who did the original op on hand?

Genevieve489 Sat 01-Feb-14 13:34:34

Just want to agree with others. Do ring the ward and speak to somebody - even if it's just to get reassurance. I did this after a different procedure and they were extremely helpful. Take care and let us know how you get on.

Nancupcake1 Sat 01-Feb-14 19:07:44

Thanks everyone, rang hospital today and was told stitches will dissolve soon, that seems to have been the trouble.feeling much better tonight and have been out for a short walk today.also drinking cranberry juice, still don't like it but will keep on.

soop Sun 02-Feb-14 11:34:31

Nancupcake1...it will take time for your body to recover from the assault of surgery. Please take things nice and easy. Have a lovely, peaceful Sunday. flowers

Nancupcake1 Sun 02-Feb-14 11:59:50

Soop, thank you, you too.

glammanana Sun 02-Feb-14 12:21:57

Nancupcake1 If you don't like the cranberry juice use the tablets from health food shop I continue to take them on a regular basis even if no infection.flowersso glad you are feeling better to-day.

Nancupcake1 Sun 02-Feb-14 19:50:01

Oh never thought of cranberry tablets, might give them a try, changed to lite juice and that is a little better.

Nancupcake1 Tue 18-Feb-14 23:11:17

Well one month after op and am feeling not too bad, been to GP and she says am healing fine, still have bother with stitches, she said the knots take longer to dissolve!! Ouch.just discovered jokes on the the other site, don't think I should be laughing like that yet!!!
