Old fashioned remedies and "cures"

Oh Baggy - I have this wonderful vision of your chooks hopping around with paste on their tootsies and plasters all over their feathers - magic!

We use a paste of honey and vaseline when our chickens get a thorn in their feet. Seems to work. Sticking a plaster on is a bit tricky but we do that too. Otherwise, green's suggestion of magnesium sulphate paste. That's a 'drawer'.

yogagran was it green soap and sugar? I still use this method. Soften soap skin in water and scrape a bit off with a teaspoon into the palm of your hand, mix in some sugar to a paste, apply folded inside a piece of lint and taped down. You can feel the 'drawing' action as it pulls out the splinters.
Mag sulph paste is also brilliant!

Other than that - nip along to the chemist's tomorrow and get some magnesium sulphate, slap some on the splintery bit and cover it with a plaster - that should do the trick!

Warmth will help to draw it out, you could try sitting with your hand in a bowl of warm water.

Yogagran, my Mum used a bread poultice to remove splinters, I think that was just mushed up bread and hot water. I can't remember whether it worked but it felt comforting.
