In December I had a fall and knocked my front crowns and bridge out.
These cannot be replaced.
At the moment I have a denture to replace the missing teeth.
I am considering implants but they are very expensive.
Does anyone have experience of implants and are they worth the cost?

A Dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into the jaw to hold a replacement tooth in place, or to provide support for a denture.Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration which occurs when teeth are missing.http://www.periodontics-dentalimplants.com/welcome-to-anthem-periodontics-and-dental-implants/

Particularly when it is just a repeat of the post already deleted, minus the link but still mentioning the product. Do they think our heads button up the back?

It's so obvious when there's a 'conversation' that doesn't ring true. Very amateurish.

Hi I am shortly to see an implant specialist! To discuss an implant and connected false tooth.this is to replace a front tooth and one next to it. I wondered if anyone could tell me what it is like to have a partial while waiting on the implant. My dentist says I won't like it( a two tooth partial).....and others on this forum seem to think it's a bit of a nightmare

I broke a front tooth many years ago as a child and then had a back molar extracted due to a serious abcess about 10 years ago. The front (crowned) tooth snapped off under the gum line 7 weeks ago, which was very distressing. My dentist arranged to see me on a Sunday to effect a temporary repair and indicated that realistically I would need an implant as wearing a front plate with a denture for many many years would probably cost more in the long run than implants and would also be annoying from both a speaking and eating perspective.

I met with the implant surgeon two days later and he spent over an hour explaining everything about implants - good, bad, cost, potential problems, results that could be achieved . Two weeks later I went back and we discussed it all over again. At that point he already knew I would need two implants (one upper, one lower) and a bone graft in the upper jawbone. He had to extract the broken front tooth and fit the denture plate as the temporary repair was exactly that! (Having now had this plate for a month there is no way that I could live with this for ever!! On the other hand, it's better than the "witchy" gap at the front that would have been left!!).

Two weeks ago I had the initial surgery. All done under a local anaesthetic - two implants and a bone graft. Antibiotics and steroids given intravenously at the time and I had ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN AT ALL AND ONLY MINIMAL SWELLING THE NEXT DAY.

Now it is just a question of playing the waiting game for 6 months for the bone graft to take and the implants to attain total stability before the new crowns can be fitted.

All I can say is go and see an implant surgeon with experience and make sure he/she spends as much time as you need explaining everything to you. Ask to see photos of cases he/she has worked on, so you know what to expect. Take your time with making a decision - this will not be a cheap option.

And finally....you need to allocate a lot more time to your dental hygiene routine whilst the implants are taking....hot salt mouth washes, Corsodyl mouth wash, Corosdyl gel, TePe brushes........

I can't wait to get my crowns in the New Year - so far it has all been worth it.

I met with an accident and lost 5 teeth and this was 3 years back. Being just 26 year old i decided to go for dental implants in India. But initially i was scared thinking of that others could differentiate between the real and the fake ones. After reading as many articles as i could i made up my mind and went for the treatment. It's been 3 years and they look just fine. One cannot differentiate between the real and the fake ones. Though the treatment is costly but one should go for it. I think it's worth it.

An implant can be had for about £2k most places outside London. That's per tooth!

I enquired about implants around five years ago and at that time I was quoted £16,000. Dentist offered a payment plan (teeth on HP?) but I declined very quickly! I've had veneers on 6 front teeth and although not cheap they've given a very good result.

Brendawymms Wed 20-May-15 13:46:49

No Phoenix not yours but the one before from deme trios Garcia. It was obviously inviting people to go to Canada for an implant.
I would never be brave enough/Stupid enough to report you Phoenix

I think the sinus problems may only occur with back teeth, but I may be wrong. I've had two implants on upper front teeth, as crowns and later a bridge (replacing knocked out teeth in childhood ) didn't work any more. Had them for ten years- worth every penny.

Anne58 Wed 20-May-15 12:57:08

What! Mine?? shock

Brendawymms Wed 20-May-15 12:54:20
