Not sure how long it will take to reduce my BP it is still very high after taking the tablets for 4 days, I'll give it another few days and then see my GP again if it is still high.
He said to aim at under 140/80 and absolute maximum 150/85 and I am in the 160s - 180 / 85-95.
The restrictive diet I am on for the high cholesterol and pre diabetes was a list from the doctors to start with, a visit to the diabetic nurse and a visit to see the nutritionist at the hospital.
This information together with information I gleaned from the diabetic uk website and a monitor got my blood glucose down to normal and my cholesterol down to acceptable level and my blood pressure went down to normal which I hadn't expected.
GP said I have done incredibly well with diet alone and keep to the diet.
I do not want to become Type 2 if I can help it.I have friends who are diabetic and they are not well at all.
The diet for the lady who wanted to know was
Basically
Cut out all foods with fat and sugar(or below 3gr per 100 gr)
Cut out all processed foods including white bread, meats, sausages etc.
I eat Soy and Linseed bread.
Low to Medium food from the Glycemic Index, no potatoes, parsnips bananas, these foods send my blood sugar high so I avoid but it's not always the case with everyone.
Use the better oils for cooking just look on the labels.
I mix my own curry powder, bought powder includes salt.
I steam vegetables or roast with herbs,
fish (steam poach bake or grill)and
poultry I roast or stir fry.
I occasionally have red meat.
I eat cottage cheese and occasional Gouda, problem with cheese is high fat and salt.
I found it very hard at first about 4 days to cut out the cake after dinner in the evening but I don't have a problem now.
Doc said once a month having a piece of cake is ok.
I would much rather monitor my diet than add to my health problems by becoming diabetic, I have heart valve disease but I don't want to loose anymore weight in fact I could do with putting on a half stone.
It's a real balancing act especially when eating out.
I go to the gym twice a week but the plus is I feel fit and have energy so I guess it's a small price to pay.
