As you say Mishap bonkers!

There really is no joined up thinking or imagination.

I remember when my DD had to have a drain removed from her abdomen and was in a right state about it. The first nurse made a pig's ear of it and then someone else tried and DD was getting very distressed. The sister gave her a "talking to" and told her to calm down, and I stood there thinking "Just give her a whiff of entonox and it will be out in a trice - job done" - but entonox is only available in A&E and maternity - bonkers!

Big complaint time! Even if it wasn't a toddler, even if she didn't have special needs - BIG COMPLAINT. Complain to GP, NHS and MP.

DazR no the nurse at the surgery wont or isn't qualified/permitted to take blood from children.

Good grief.
Having to get a prescription for 'numbing cream'!!
It's in every dental practice in the country and it costs peanuts.
Why the f*ck can't hospital departments have it?
That's quite apart from the rest of your sorry tale Nina
Sorry everyone but that's about the fourth story of abysmal practice within the NHS I've heard in the last 24 hours.

This needs to be reported.

Was there nobody at the surgery who could have done it?

Seems like yet another example of things not being "joined up"

Have they not realised the importance of communication?

Following an over night stay at King's London last week DD had to take DGS for a follow up blood test today.
So off to the GP surgery for script for numbing cream (they won't do children with out this) collect cream from next door pharmacy. She knew from past experience that our local hospital won't take blood from children. Even though they have a phlebotomy dept. So she travels 12 miles to next nearest where older grandson had had it done. After 90min wait she's told they don't do it for under 2 yr olds. (he's 2 this month)
She now has to travel 25miles to another hospital for after 4pm. where they have 'the facilities' ???? and wait again. Can someone explain what these facilities are. If they have a phlebotomy department isn't that enough ? Why didn't the GP tell her where she needed to be. All this with a special needs toddler in tow angry angry
