Lord Warner has written a report that points out the if we want to have an effective NHS we are going to need to get more money for it.
He suggests various things including a £10 a month for using it and levies on gambling, alcohol, tobacco or sugar.
With some drastic cuts in the pipeline under "austerity" - how do you think the NHS can be funded in the face of increasing demand and increasing costs of the latest treatments.

durhamjen - if a hospital discharges someone and supplies medication (as they did with me), the clearly that is not going to be charged for as it is needed immediately. However, paracetemol is very cheap to buy (49p for 10) so why shouldn't people pay for them if they can afford it? Ever heard of the 'drip drip effect'?

Re: Calderdale Hospital - I agree with your sentiments entirely.

Thanks, durhamjen for both those links. Interesting but depressing. So now this government has lost control of the NHS and education.

49p for ten paracetamol is a lot if you are taking 8 a day, Holly.
Where does the slippery slope end? If you're asked to pay for them should you also pay for the aspirin that you need daily, and for the senna, which you also need daily? In which case should you pay for the alpha blockers, the beta blockers and the calcium channel blockers?
Statins are dirt cheap these days. Why not ask everyone to pay for them?

A good TED talk about the NHS. Worth watching.

A bit worrying re care homes. Even the man in charge has problems.
Wonder where his parents are.
