I shower every day but I suspect it is not too good for my dry skin.

Jings please tell me why you think a wetroom is unhygenic and the work of the devil? stdavids

Galen Fri 27-Feb-15 21:34:08

Quite!
If you're disabled and can only shower sitting down. A wet room is great!
It has a drain the same as as a shower.
The difference is that it is wheelchair accessible!

Well, the splash of the overhead shower goes everywhere. It's not confined to a particular space that you can easily rinse off, as you can in a shower cubicle. And you get cold wet bits of floor (on the outskirts of the shower space). And they just don't look attractive.

I prefer either a shower cubicle, or an over-bath shower. I think I like the latter the best because you can have your sit down bath and then stand up for a shower-rinse-off.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 21:35:06

Yes. I'm sure they are very good for wheelchair users Galen. flowers

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 21:35:41

Doesn't the wheelchair get very wet though? confused

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 21:36:52

And I can't actually see the point of a wet room. confused

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 21:37:16

I mean, for the able bodied.

Asked my very blunt sister if I smelt today , she was slightly taken aback ! But reassured me that I did not stink . I shower every second day and use E45 washing stuff as all the soaps and shower stuff irritates my skin . I use a scrubby and do feel clean after my shower , but it takes me forever due to stiffness and pains , and I have to hurry some days

Galen Fri 27-Feb-15 21:38:55

It's just like a great big walk in shower that has an accessible toilet and washbasin in the same level room!
I'm getting more and more disabled and this is one of the ways that would help me to be independent!
You're stating they're the work of the devil and unhygienic is not a helpful remark to us disabled!

Galen Fri 27-Feb-15 21:40:52

angry

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 21:41:00

Well, I'm very sorry about that. I didn't realise this was a thread where I had to be minding my p's and q's all the time for fear of offending anyone. hmm

NanKate Fri 27-Feb-15 21:41:06

Loopylou have I got my facts right that you iron the bed linen shock?

I hang my head in shame as I haven't ironed a sheet in 43 years of marriage. You should be given flowers

To be honest I am a bit lax on the domestic scene.hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 21:41:13

hmm

Galen Fri 27-Feb-15 21:45:43

You transfer from the wheel chair to the let down seat, and wipe down the wheelchair before transferring back
A problem you ablebodied don't have to face!

Fortunately, I'm not wheelchair bound at the moment, just have to use crutches!

I'm planning ahead so as not to be dependant on darling daughter.

tanith Fri 27-Feb-15 21:52:48

I can sort of see what you mean about the water splash but I don't think its unhygenic or the work of the devil, I guess I have the best of both worlds as we have a walk in shower but without doors just a glass panel at one side it looks very attractive.. some of us can't get up from a bath and I fell more than once trying to get into the bath to shower, hence OH insisting we get a walk in shower by removing the bath even though he much prefers to bathe in a bath.

Coolgran65 Fri 27-Feb-15 21:53:14

Morning shower and evening bits and pits.
DH showers morning and night....... possibly from routine of his days in the RN.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 22:08:01

Oh alright. Perhaps not the work of the devil! grin I thought this was a light-hearted thread! Why is it suddenly getting heavy? I'm off. grin

Galen Fri 27-Feb-15 22:15:24

Good!

Soutra Fri 27-Feb-15 22:24:55

Large walk in shower with a stool for DH to sit down if he feels the need. I find it invaluable for my assorted products! The humanising and restorative effects of a shower cannot, IMHO be overestimated smile so whoever I feel the need- certainly to wake me up!

Ana Fri 27-Feb-15 22:25:21

This is one of those threads that divide people.

Where is NanKate who started it all off? hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 22:27:25

I don't see why it should be divisive. I think there may be the odd poster on Gransnet who is plain nasty. Naming no names of course.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 22:27:51

Totally unpleasant!

Galen Fri 27-Feb-15 22:28:47

Do you mean me?

merlotgran Fri 27-Feb-15 22:31:45

I thought it was a light hearted thread as well. confused

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 27-Feb-15 22:31:48

Just tell me why you said "Good!" when I said I was off? What was that all about. I really don't understand you. confused

Oh wait a minute - have I insulted your - wet room?! confused
