Storing tablets

A lot of those portable daily dose tablet boxes are too small when some of the tablets are vere big and its easier and safer to keep them in the foil blister packs.

If you are very organised you could put you daily doses out each night which is a good idea. But I am just not that organised.

Thanks all, some good ideas here which I will follow up. I am determined to get sorted.

DH and I share a large plastic box which I made a cardboard decided for this lives on top of kitchen wall cabinet. New tab packet s are put into the box at the bottom of the pile. I take a sheet of blister pack out at a time. I write a big X across the box I'm using.
The sheets of tabs I'm using are stored in a makeup bag bought for this purpose. This is what I pack when going away. DH does the same.

I keep one pack of each drug in a plastic bag in the kitchen. Extra drugs are stored in a see through box, in date order, in the top of a wardrobe. When I am out and about I have my evening tablets in an a tube that used to hold camera film, fits into the smallest handbag.

durhamjen I am a nerd when it comes to being organized. Family tease me.
I don't know if my organisational skills smile are a blessing or an irritation...to myself.

I'm impressed, coolgran. You are super-organised.

I started to sort OHs tablets and was horrified to find a lot of out of date ones at the bottom , The pharmacist disposed of them and I put the new ones in the bottom of the box , I use the daily containers for a week at a time and can see if he is about to run out when I do them at the beginning of the week

Med packs have the date of issue on them and I use them in date order. Keep them in a wicker basket on top of the wardrobe. I have two containers, each for 7 days, and make them up for two weeks at a time. Also have a little box in my handbag with a few pills so I'm never caught without.

The only one I take is an oestrogen inhibitor after breast cancer - probably worth giving it a go! But no others, thank goodness.

Anya Tue 23-Jun-15 22:31:43

Don't take any presciption medication.

Ana Tue 23-Jun-15 22:29:06

Oh I see, they're still in their blister packs. I had a vision of a great big jar of pills!

Surely all you need to do is place the new pack on the bottom of the pile?

NanKate Tue 23-Jun-15 22:26:48

You ask Ana why I mix them, well I have a couple of plastic boxes where I store the tablets and when I add more tablets, which are in blister packs, they go on top of the old ones. hmm

I like the idea of dosset box.

Ana Tue 23-Jun-15 22:03:08

I'm very glad I only have to take one a day!

durhamjen Tue 23-Jun-15 22:01:00

Haven't had a tablet in a bottle for years. However, I read a few days ago something about disposing of the blister packs in the recycling.
I have always put them in the landfill bin, but when you think about it, they are aluminium and plastic, so should be able to be recycled.

With tanith and Lily on having a weekly box. Just reminded me to take tonight's four, thanks.

If I didn't have a dosset box, I would never know where I was with medication. I keep the opened packs in a see-through toilet bag and the unopened packs in a drawer. It makes travelling easier as well because I don't have to sort them out specially before we go.

tanith Tue 23-Jun-15 21:30:25

I keep all the newest meds that I've collected from the chemist in the bag I collect them in until all the ones I have are used up. I also have a dosset box where I put all the tablets for a week into individual daily boxes that way I know if I have missed a dose.

Ana Tue 23-Jun-15 21:28:37

Do they not come in packets or bottles? I'm not sure why you mix them with the ones you already have.

NanKate Tue 23-Jun-15 21:23:53

I take 3 different types of tablets in varying quantities each day. When I get them from the chemist I mix them with the tablets I still have - not a good idea. I try to keep a couple of days worth of tablets in a little box.

Do any of you organise your tablets in a more ordered and better manner ?
